Spoilers The Flash - Season 3

Villains like Dr. Alchemy, Mirror Master, and Abra Kadabra could have been great if they hadn't already been rendered useless.

Well, we know that Abra Kadabra will be an enemy of the Flash in the future. I bet that's why they gave David Dastmalchian gray hair for the role -- because this was the older Abra who'd fought the Flash many times in his own past, and the next time we see Abra, it'll be the younger version at the beginning of his rivalry with the Flash. So he could still be a recurring villain. Heck, as I've said before, he could be a seasonal big bad, since his technology, trickery, and future knowledge would make him a potent challenge.

Well fuck. Really should have seen that coming.
I think a huge percentage of the audience figured it out a long time ago. I thought they might go for shock value of an out of left field reveal that did not at all fit what they had told us. GLad they did not.

Savitar being a future version of Barry is a psychological look at Barry himself. Which is different than just another random evil speedster.

I called it (and so did many other people, to be fair). "I am the future Flash", that line seemed to imply that savitar was Barry to me, and of course he is, at least some version of him. Its an interesting idea, I can't wait to see where they go with it from here.

Every one from the future is a time remnant likely to dissolve at the first hint of a gandfather paradox.

If that's 2030 Barry, his face got fucked up like that because 2024 Barry stopped washing his hair.

But 2024 Barry didn't know who Savitar was. Ugh time travel logic. Well at least the future is constantly changing.

I think he did. Which is why he seemed reluctant to tell 2017 Barry.

Now the big question: just how bad a marriage did future Barry have with Iris that future Barry would feel the need to go back in time to kill Iris before the marriage? That's got to put a damper on a romance. Ouch.

I don't think that is it at all. I think Savatar is from the timeline where Iris dies. So Savatar has to kill her in order to create the timeline that creates himself. Crazy time paradox!

^My guess is divergent timelines. Savitar may come fro, one of those timelines where Barry never got married. It'd explain why Flashpoint made him possible. In the Pre-Flashpoint timeline where Iris West-Allen wrote that 2024 article, Barry wasn't destined to become Savitar.

One thought about when Barry becomes Savitar. There really is no way to know. He has superfast healing, so it may be possible that his speed slows down his aging. What I found really odd though is how he could have a scarred face--again--healing power.

My thoughts on "I know Who You Are":

I am absolutely loving Killer Frost. She is pretty much stealing the show every time she appears. Danielle Panabaker is doing a much better job as KF than as Caitlyn probably because the character gives her a lot more to work with. As KF, she can act villainous, do fight scenes whereas as Caitlyn she pretty much just spouts some medical technobabble from time to time. The scene where KF glides through the city on ice trails was amazing!!

Tracy Brand is going to be a great fit on Team Flash with her science knowledge. She has something real to contribute to the team. I actually hope she replaces HR on the team.

I cringed a bit at the scene where Joe tells Cecile that they can't be together because his life is complicated. This show does that too often where a character thinks they have to push their loved one away to protect them. It is getting old and cliche. I am glad that it only lasted one episode and that Joe told her the truth.

The Savatar reveal makes perfect sense thematically. I am reminded of the diner scene at the beginning of the season where Jay lectures Barry about not mucking with the timeline. Barry created flashpoint out of grief, believing that he was powerful enough to fix things. Jay reminded Barry that they are not gods. I feel like Savatar is simply taking this idea to its logical extreme. Basically, Savatar is future Barry, broken from grief, who throws Jay's advice out the window and goes "screw it, I am a god and I will control time". It is exploring the idea that inside Barry, there is that potential to be a villain, as we saw with flashpoint, as Reverse Flash even hinted at with his comment "who's the villain now Flash?". This theme parallels nicely with Caitlyn and Killer Frost. Caitlyn had a villain inside her who wanted to get out. So some nice themes being explored this season, I think.

Some remaining questions: when and how does future Barry create his Savatar suit? When and how does future Barry get that nasty face scar? Exactly when does future Barry become Savatar?

I agree about divergent timelines. My theory is that our Barry will of course save Iris and thus create a timeline that diverges from the timeline we saw in "Once and Future Flash". So Savatar is Barry's time remnant from the timeline where Iris died.

Impressive from a digital-FX perspective to see that pulled off in "live-action," yes, but I couldn't help wondering, what's keeping that ice slide suspended in midair? A lot of times when I've seen that effect done for Iceman or whoever in comics or animation, they show that there are "icicle" support columns extending to the ground, but this was just a large, heavy, brittle structure that somehow managed to retain its shape despite only being supported at one end. Seeing it in live-action made it harder to suspend disbelief about its, err, unbelievable suspension.

I was wondering if she was an established comics character, but the DC Database has no entry for her except a stub that was created yesterday for Dudek's character on the show. I'm a bit surprised to see them adding a new character rather than digging up some obscure bit player from the comics and grafting a new personality onto them.
