But, the overall implication was the crew kicking back and smoking, which is what I disagreed with. Medicinal uses I do support.
I agree on both counts.

Vaporizers are actually a superior way to take it.
Although, to your point, some would argue that action films are bad for you![]()
Yes indeedy it is. And more economical considering half of your pot isn't being burned away. And they don't make near as much of a smell, I can sit on the patio of my 2nd floor apartment with my Pax and no one blinks an eye.
And I've done my own personal research on this. (which you would expect from an old retired stoner) The amount of pot that goes into the little oven on a Pax 2 is *about* less than half of what it takes to roll a *thin* joint, and probably about a quarter of what it takes to roll a nice thick one. Yet, I get more puffs (inhales) from a single oven load on a Pax than a joint. I've counted. LOL
Yes, this was difficult research, but in the name of humanity, I struggled through it.
Plus, on the rare occasion they did have an exploding building on the holodeck (like VOY The Killing Game), the safeties were off and stuff like this inevitably happened:Probably the only reason we haven't seen any wild car chases or exploding buildings in a holodeck scenario is the because the real shows' budgets wouldn't allow them.![]()
Why not? Trek's no stranger to taking a stand.I don't think Star Trek should come down on one side or another on the issue. And even if it is not smoked, but taken in other ways. Whilst it is becoming normalised now, does not mean in 200 years it will still be seen as normal.

Topical issues... "Should weed be treated like alcohol?" This would necessitate showing the good and bad of that - which is what I suggested they should do if they tackle it.Because God forbid that STAR TREK, of all things, should ever address topical issues--or try to anticipate future trends.

I like to think that Kirk kidnapping the Whales is the reason they went extinctAnd I don't recall The Voyage Home examining the downside to saving the whales.
We see what happens if they were allowed to become extinct. They did it for Earth's sake, not the sake of the Whales. Not necessarily. Pretty sure TOS didn't try to show the good and bad sides of racism, or overpopulation, or whatever. And I don't recall The Voyage Home examining the downside to saving the whales.![]()
Or instead of looking down on it, they will all consider it to be a highly respectable transcendental experience that opens the mind to new ways of perception and understanding.
Why do we keep assuming that 23rd century humans would or should think about things the same way we do?
Make Star Trek challenging.
