Weed and other hobbies the "DIscovery" crew might/should have?

Seriously, the idea that every kid is affected by violence the same way is nonsense. Children are going to learn a lot based upon what the adults present as acceptable. See Bandura for some research on the topic.

Heck, it's not as though kids were never exposed to (fictional) death and violence in days gone by. Look at Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, Treasure Island, Oliver Twist, Tarzan of the Apes, Johnny Tremain, Old Yeller, and so on, not to mention any number of classic myths, legends, and fairy tales.

Pretty sure the first "grown-up" book I ever read, way back in third grade, was The War of the Worlds, which was all about the massacre of mankind and featured at least one grisly scene of the Martians sucking the blood out a captured human. (Trust me, that's great stuff when you're a kid.) And I'd read The Island of Doctor Moreau, The Invisible Man, Dracula, Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mister Hyde, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Phantom of the Opera, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and umpteen other horror stories and murder mysteries before I was out of grade school . . ..

And when it came to scaring the dickens out of me, TOS was tame compared to THE OUTER LIMITS . . . and THE WIZARD OF OZ. :).

It's all in presentation. The Wizard of Oz novel was even crazier when I read it.

I also don't recommend watching "Alien" at 8.

Ouch! I was in college when that came out and it was scary enough then.

But, yeah, the Wicked Witch of the West terrified me as a kid, and so did the credits to the original OUTER LIMITS: "We have taken control of your television set . . . ." I had to run out of the room whenever that came on!

And DARK SHADOWS literally gave me nightmares, but I still watched it religiously every day.

Good times. :)

Got to be careful here. Being gay is always okay. Weed is NOT always okay, just like anything pleasurable--fine Belgian quads for me--it can be abused.
I got to admit I don't know everthing about weed but I think what I was saying is that both are the same in the sense that neither things are imoral and are equal in that regard. If there is side effects to weed I would equate them more along the lines of how fast food can also be bad for you, but we don't say Mcdonald's is evil because of it.

Whatever else people might take away from this conversation, it's critical to understand that fast food is unequivocally more dangerous than marijuana.

That's why I think the only legal qualification to buy weed should be an ability to cook nutrient-deficient foods.

Marijuana (a.k.a. "weed") is a harmful and dangerous substance. Check DrugAbuse.gov > DrugFacts: Marijuana for extensive details. It is banned in most of the world, and is listed as a Schedule I drug (most severe category) by the DEA. This is not an "outdated world view" but a factual and present danger.

In most of the world, weed is never okay for an intake.

As for "being gay", check with the science professionals: On the Promotion of Homosexuality in the Schools and Homosexual Parenting: Is it Time for Change?

Finally, neuroscience reveals that a person's judgement and reasoning abilities continue to develop into his or her mid-twenties.

Have a nice day. :)

Haha... no.

I was thinking of something? What about holodeck drugs or virtural reality drugs? You could in theory have people hook themselves up to a machine, turn it on and replicate the experience of doing even harder drugs like coccaine without having ever touching the real stuff.

Jason

I can understand the arguments for it and against it but I never get how some people can be anti-marijuana but OK with alcohol use.

I started watching TOS as a child. Clearly, I was scarred for life. :)
Scarred me, it imparted a sense of right and wrong that doesn't seem very compatible with the real world. I would've probably been more successful without it.

Since the last person linking to stuff from the known anti-gay hate group "American College of Pediatricians" (not to mistake with the legitimate American Academy of Pediatrics) was banned just a short while ago and you are new, I'm assuming you're the same person. And it only took you one post to reveal that?

Infraction for Trolling. Comments to PM.

Do I really have to reiterate this? This is not a place where trolling/baiting LGBT people or posting anti-LGBT stuff is allowed. The same is true for racist or sexist trolling so don't even try. We don't feed Trolls.
