The Magicians Season 2

I feel kind bad for poor Todd, he's never really done anything bad, but nobody seems to like him.

Can someone give a quick reference point for this series. I'm trying to decide if I want to watch it. Is it more like Vampire Diaries (CW) or like an HBO series?

Not sure what you mean because I haven't seen Vampire Diaries, just know what my daughter tells me. I don't watch HBO either, but I guess it's like an HBO series in that it's sexy and "adult language" is rife and there is violence. The second season is quite different from the first.

I don't see much about it online. Is it quality television, is it a guilty pleasure like Smallville, does it have something to say?

I'd say it's closer to HBO than TVD. It's only on Syfy so it's not quite at an HBO level, but it does get pretty close at times. Just a bit of a warning since they can be a sensitive topics, it does deal with child molestation and rape. There's also a storyline about a god shitting in a pool of magical water. I think those things right there will give you a pretty good feel for the kind of show it is.
We have our dragon

So, I'm not entirely clear on what's going on. Are they basically going to merge Julia and Alice? We met a librarian who almost certainly is going to betray them? And something is attacking Fillory, but it's not the Fairies, but they're going to deal with the Fairies anyway? And Julia hates Our Lady of the Underground for reasons that aren't entirely clear to me? Because she didn't answer when Julia called? That seems rather entitled. Or is Julia just going to hate all gods now?

At least there's some good news:
Don't worry, you're probably not going to hell.

Julia thought she was worshiping and interacting with Our Lady of the Underground a.k.a. Persephone but she wasn't really answering her when it really counted and Reynard was able to step in and ruin her life. Julia probably blames Persephone as well as Reynard for that.
Julia might have brought Alice's shade back because Alice was "obsessed with shades" and might be able to help them out in that area. They will probably have to reunite Alice with her shade first.
Loved the dragon. This show is full of surprises.

The Original X-Men, after an orgy try to out smart Hannibal Lecter who has the super powers of Dr Manhattan, and they all have access to a Narnia, where the kids from the C. S. Lewis books were sexually assaulted by C. S. Lewis.

That was how I read that too, that she was upset that Personphone didn't answer her and that her lack of response allowed Reynard to take her place.

I wonder if reuniting Alice with her Shade will deNiffin her?

The dragon was awesome.

Lots going on in this episode. I wonder if Persephone will keep Reynard under control after all. Also, does Persephone know that Kady killed her grandson and does she care? Now that they have their god-killing bullet, who will they use it on now that Reynard is out of the picture....or is he? Is Ember a candidate? Will the dragon show up in Fillory via the button? This show keeps me guessing. What will happen when Elliott's baby is born? Will the rat-people become human again? How many loose ends will they tie up next week?

Thought - did they establish if Reynard had grandkids via the Senator? How diluted would their power be, being presumably 3/4 mortal?

As a side note - Did not realise Gorham was 42!

First thing I noticed him in was Popular which started in 1999.

He seems to be playing someone in their 20s or maybe early 30s on Two Broke Girls concurrently with present day.

Yeah - that was my weekend viewing when I was at Uni in 2001. I always assumed he was about the same age as me and I'm 35.

We already know Season 3 is happening, so I'm expecting at least a few dangling story threads at the end of next week.
With Reynard, it seems like all of his killings and chaos have been to get Persephone's attention, so I don't expect to see much of him now that he's with her.
I did like Persephone sending Julia's shade back to her. It's nice to know at least one story is going to have a happyish ending.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Alice now that she appears to be human again. She's definitely a bit unstable now, but I hope she'll get closer to her old self as time goes on.
It definitely looks like they'll be Ember will be the big bad for the finale, so I'm thinking he'll probably get the god killing bullet.
I'm curious what kind of conflict they're setting up with the Fairies, although that feels more like a possible set up for Season 3. If they kill off Ember in the finale, I could see the Fairies coming in and causing all sorts of problems.

Or if they remove Ember - will Umber fill the void? Is too much order just as bad as too much chaos?

That would be interesting thing to address. As for the actual question, I would say yes.
I loved Umber showing up as the big Fillory collector, and him and Quentin fanboying was fun.

Those fairies are creepy. No tinkerbell vibe there. The dragon has the Fillory button now. Will it use it to enter Fillory or just add it to the hoard?

Yeah, these are definitely the British mythology fairies and not the Tinkerbell type.
