STC Ep. 9: ???.... (Coming this June)

It's not impossible to do. From the POV of an audience in 1970/71 with no knowledge of TMP to come, Kirk becoming the youngest Admiral in Starfleet history would be seen as a well-earned hero's reward. Bonus points if he gets a new girl (Admiral Lori Ciana?) in the bargain. With Spock, all they have to say is that he's returning home and going on a retreat (vision quest?) to find inner peace - something hippies of the time were all about. No need to go into detail on exactly how he's going to find inner peace until the reveal at the start of TMP.

McCoy's arc is going to be the trickiest one to do, especially if (as I earlier surmised) a dramatic fallout between him and Kirk happens. Another contemporary parallel - the Vietnam soldier returning home, nursing emotional scars, trying to pick up the pieces of a long lost life. No way in hell Gene could resist that. Since Joanna McCoy hasn't debuted in any version of Star Trek to this point, this would be the perfect spot to introduce her as Bones tries to reconnect to something, anything. Leaving it with him, and the impression he's going to be all right as he returns to being a good 'ol country doctor on Earth, would provide the needed 'happy ending.'

It's clear in TMP, though, that Kirk and McCoy were both specifically aware Spock was undergoing the Kolinahr discipline. It makes as much sense to include that reference as it did to mention "katra" in The White Iris.

BoredShipCapt'n said: They wouldn't. Hardly any show did in those days; The Fugitive in 1967 was the first. But it's Vic's world, a great world, and we just live in it.

One-armed man kiiled, Kimble exonerated. Hardly a downbeat story.

Spock would have mentioned it in his resignation letter to Starfleet, I'm sure. I'm assuming he didn't quit until after he was off the Enterprise and had been on Vulcan for a while to think things over. In the TMP script, Kirk mentioned that he'd inquired into what Spock was up to (presumably while trying to get the gang back together) - "At last report you were on Vulcan, apparently to stay" - and he'd have told McCoy in turn before the sit-down in the officer's lounge.

I wonder if we'll see Decker in the final episode. Always thought that timeline was a little off - In the film, there's an 18 month refit but Decker says Kirk hasn't "Logged a Star Hour in 2 1/.2 years" - There's unaccounted time that Vic won't be able to cover - The year before the refit. What the heck happened to the ENTERPRISE in the pre-refit period. Her story is just as important as Everyone else.

Maybe it took a year to clean out the septic system.

I am sure SFI and Section 31 have a folder on Spock ...which Kirk would of had access to

What's the gap between the Five Year Mission and TMP meant to be? It was certainly not 10 years

Vic said the final shot of the series is to see the TOS Enterprise in drydock. That strongly suggests the actual refit hasn't yet begun. There could eve be some backstory dealing with Starfleet trying to decide whether to refit the ship or decommission her. Much might depend on how much backstory found in Gene Roddenberry's novelization they might take ideas from.

My impression from what I've heard is that STC could somewhat set the characters up for what is seen later in TMP, but we might not see everything played out beat by beat.

I would rather have something not completely explained- it is not really necessary to know every detail.
One thing that I am curious about though- did the Enterprise just get called in at the calender end of the five year mission or did something happen towards the end of the mission which required her to return to Earth- some major damage needing drydock and they decided to upgrade instead...

Between the engine problems and the fact that the computer running the ship has the capability of future sentience (two scares now - both M5 and the standard computer, given a long enough timespan) ... this refit might be more necessary then thought. :)

Saw the episode. Generally speaking, I'm a fan of this series and think it can be left to complete, since there are only 3 episodes left. No matter what their antagonists might say.

Going back and revisiting a few STC episodes today, and it's had me wondering why Chuck Huber wasn't able to play McCoy in Pilgrim of Eternity and Lolani? I know he was an Assistant Director on Lolani, but it's strange he was in the role for the vignettes, and then took two episodes off.

I recall something about scheduling conflicts being mentioned.

Just found this video from the Lolani shoot where he confirmed it was indeed a schedule conflict with the movie Parkland that precluded his acting involvement for those episodes:

I'm not sure if this ever got posted over here, but last month, Michele Specht posted the following photo on Facebook of the STC cast and crew during the final day of shooting. Todd Haberkorn already wrapped on the production and had to leave early for another commitment, which is why he's missing from the pic.

Here it is: The FINAL picture taken of our entire Star Trek Continues production team - during our final episode shoot. If you've seen our STC FB page, read our most recent newsletter, or seen the recent postings on this page, then you already know: STC has indeed been completed. We are wrapped. Our last 4 episodes have been shot, and are in post production - and the link to Episode 8 will be emailed to IndieGoGo supporters at 12noon PST on April 1st, and then released online to the public on April 2nd! The other 3 will be released throughout the rest of this year. That's right - you will be getting 4 NEW EPISODES released over the next 9 months!

I hope you can see how bittersweet this picture is... all these amazing people who were brought together because of Vic Mignogna's dream and our mutual love of Star Trek, and became a family. I just realized... we started this process (building the sets, coordinating our team, ect) in 2012... so we indeed completed OUR five year mission. WOW.

We are so very excited for you to see these 4 new episodes - to see this amazing series come full circle, and bring a beautiful 'wrap up' to the Original Series of Star Trek... trust me, you will NOT be dissapointed.
