    Um why does this subscribe site require my phone number in order to subscribe.......... Hope they like texting Jenny. 867-5309.

    The whitewashing is so minute that it can be ignored and watched as the trek version. It is almost like it is star trek but in another version of the multiverse. Although I wish we could have seen Aron Eisenberg with Ferengi ears.

    When the Breen dude talked I kept thinking of Simon from Frisky dingo.

    With even more whitewashing I would have gotten into this more, every time they said Confederation I cringed. I know this topic was already discussed but it could have gone with a better name. But at the same time I know the white washing was done last minute in only a few hours of rewrites.

    Clones of Dax. Nice. The trek verse explanation could have been that the Trill Symbiosis Commission wanted to find a way to get more hosts as DS9 established that more Trill's were compatible than the government lead the public to believe. Section 31 could have found this out and manipulated them into going along with the experiment. Section 31's interests being that a symbiote that can go from host to host and carry the previous hosts memories would be perfect for espionage.

    You're doing what I'm doing, politely ignoring the changes?

    Or Welshy?!

    Looking a the trailer though it seems that notUhura has a significant role in the plot rather than just a cameo as well as notChakotay.

    Hilariously though close up you can see Tim is wearing his prosthetic ears, they've just been rounded in post-production.

    Subscribing didn't work for me. Is there any other way to watch it?

    All I did was put in an email and nothing else, and it took me to the video. It didn't even ask for a confirmation, so I suspect any old string of letters would work.
    I don't think it's anywhere else yet.

    Thanks. It's somewhat annoying that they make you think you need to enter all that other info.

    Yeah. I just used an (random) email and it let me in. I guess/hope it will be uploaded on YouTube as well in a few days though.

    I would be grateful if someone posted a hypothetical lexicon with the analogies. For instance:
    UFP => Confederacy
    Romulans => Rigelians(?)
    etc.

    Federation = Confederation
    Section 31 = Section 6
    Romulans = Rigellians
    USS Archer = CSS Archer
    Warp drive = FTL drive

    Tuvok = Kovok
    Pavel Chekov = Pavel Tolstoy
    Nyota Uhura = Grace Jamison
    Ichab = Chaffee
    Jadzia = Jada
    Chakotay = Cordero
    Nog = Fnaxnor
    Jake Sisko = Jacob Sisko

    Some of these names are from the Renegades website, I'm not sure they were all said on-screen in part 1. "Pavel Tolstoy" is from "Pavel" in the flashback and his granddaughter's surname (which may admittedly be different). He's credited only as "The Admiral". There was a wrecked ship in TNG: "Best of Both Worlds" scripted as the USS Chekov, but they decided at the last minute that a reference to Chekov was "too cute" for such a serious scene and renamed it the USS Tolstoy :)

    Thanks. This is helpful. IMO they could've played around a bit more with some of the names to distance it even further from Trek. I'm surprised they have kept Cirroc Lofton's character name essentially the same. And also the Rigellians, which are a species in Trek.

    Well, Rigel is a real star system, so you can call someone Rigelian, just like you could call someone a martian and not get in trouble with any number of sci-fi properties. Honestly, hearing them get creative with the names is half the fun of the episode. :D

    Remember the guidelines were announced a day or two into filming. I suspect the opening scene with Sisko, Kovok and the Admiral was shot before any changes were made. Kovok's ears look weird, like they've been CG'd into human shape.

    In comparison, I didn't realise Fnaxnor was Aron Eisenberg/Nog until his conversation with Jada. He doesn't look Ferengi at all.

    Thank you, that's much appreciated. Hopefully as the series progresses we will keep adding. For instance…

    Boushh = Prak

    I wonder with Jake if they will change the spelling of his last name to perhaps Sisco? And if that will suffice?

    Good point about the Rigel star system. I thought Cordero also mentioned the Orions as well. I'm sure a similar argument could be made regarding that name as well for a species, but I am so used to hearing Rigellians and Orions in regards to Trek it feels like a propriety thing to me.

    I also thought the villains from the first Renegade film were solid enough to be the heavies if they needed to change things. But it appears they had very little time to institute their changes. I do like the new uniforms. They are nicer than the original Renegade Federation/Confederation uniforms but yet also feel like they could be Trek uniforms as well.

    Just watched Part 1. I thought it was a promising beginning. I think moving beyond the strictures of being a Star Trek production is a good thing for Renegades. I don't know if the CBS edict allowed the Renegade creators to tell a darker story or if that was the plan all along. In any case, I think the darker story in Part 1 works better for a non-Star Trek show. I could easily see it being something we might see on Babylon 5 or maybe even Firefly.

    I also liked the new ship designs. Even though the Archer looks less streamlined, it still looks pretty cool. And I really liked the Rigellian warbirds. Those were some big and wonderful looking ships. I even like the Icarus more this time than in the pilot.

    I thought Part 1 packed a punch almost out the gate, wiping out a good number of the Icarus crew, which definitely lets you know that Renegades will be an unpredictable show and you don't know who's going to be taken out. I am going to miss Chasty Ballesteros. Ms. Ballesteros is achingly gorgeous, and I've always liked that last name, since I saw that a Wonder Woman villain also had the same surname years ago. I even named one of my fan fic characters Ballesteros.

    It was cool seeing Nog and Jadzia together again. I really liked the "I'm all ears" line. And I really like the character makeup for Fnaxnor. I'm wondering if Jada's costume was originally meant to have a Klingon influence. It felt vaguely Klingon in look to me. I thought Gary Graham was cool as Ragnar and I like the potential friendship developing between Ragnar and Prak. I think that could lead to some good buddy action/comedy down the road.

    I also like how the show changed the pronunciation for Rigellian to make it distinct from Trek.

    I do have a few knocks. The acting isn't always the best, but it's a fan film so I'm charitable there. However I think the last part of the episode, where the admiral reveals the monstrous plan of the Cabal felt flat. It needed a bit more punch. I also think the uniforms could be tailored to fit the actors better. I like the Confederation uniforms quite a bit. I also liked Singh's jacket. I don't remember her wearing the same jacket in the pilot. I think more work could be done on Section 6's (?) uniforms. I didn't care for them.

    As the series progresses I hope it diverges even more from Trek. I wouldn't mind if in the next film they rename characters and redesign things even more to they break away enough from Trek. I understand they were under time constraints here but when that's no longer an issue I hope they reimagine things even more.
