Your favorite movie and why?

If you value your safety, you should know better than to use the "M" word around here...

Not sure what you mean? Thought my analogy was sound. Star fleet is the 23rd century equivalent of our military isn't it?

The Search For Spock. I think it's just a lovely film. It really shows the Enterprise crew as the close knit group that we know or want them to be: A family. It's full of great character moments (everyone gets their moment in the limelight), and some really hard-hitting emotional punches: Sarek and Kirk's mind meld (Shatner's best acting, in my opinion); Saavik helping Spock with his Pon Farr; the death of David (Shatner's second best moment); the death of the Enterprise; the resurrection of Spock.
Plus, the Star Trek universe is really opened up in this film: so many new ships, space stations, locations. Yes, there are some clunky bits and cheap-looking sets, but I think these are far outweighed by everything else. And: Robin Curtis is my favourite Saavik!
Wonderful!

Agree with this, it's in a group of trek films in the chasing pack that are right behind my top two. It just doesn't quite posses the timeless 'classic' feel I get from the first two, mainly because of it's quite preposterous premise, but there's just so much memorable stuff here, world building, emotional stuff, amazing score the list goes on.

TFF and Nemesis are both getting no love on this thread.

Good.

For me, it's a toss-up between Wrath of Khan, Undiscovered Country, and Beyond. Whichever one is first, First Contact is second. It's good, but to be brutally honest none of the TNG movies were as good as the good TOS movies.

Nemesis for me is also in the chasing pack, lots of problems sure but for reasons I barely understand myself feel that it's the most rewatchable, entertaining TNG film just edging out FC. Not a popular view I know.

I love TFF and Nemesis. I'd watch either before TUC.

Star Trek (2009). It renewed my love of Star Trek after a long dormancy and I have shown it to plenty of friends to get them interested in the universe.

In a way for me the three reboots are the three best ones, they are so technically superior to what's gone before and deliver such a 'blockbuster' experience they are almost in a class of their own and separate from the likes of TMP and TWOK, which are my 'true' favourites.

TFF: there's a good movie in there trying to get out. I can enjoy it from time to time.

NEM: yuck

I love TUC.

Oh and I think Beyond is the best of the prequels. Loved it!

2009 was very good.

:techman:

I'm just in love with Jaylah.

Works for me.

I'm intrigued that Boutella is playing the new MUMMY as well. I was already going to see the movie, since I grew up on the old Universal monster movies, but now I'm extra-interested.

Top 4.

1) Beyond:

A slight edge over ST09. I have lots of reasons, but I like the way it straddles the line through Trek history and into the Kelvin films. It enhances and expands on the previous two films while simultaneously and consciously celebrates the 50th anniversary.

It has one of the better themes of Trek films. As is widely known, Gene hated the majority of the movie scripts with the exception of STIV. He'd have loved the championing of diversity, peace and inclusion.

Other good points: It has the pros of the Kelvin era. Actual cinematic filmmaking. It's dynamic. A fully realized world. It shows us things we always wanted to see and couldn't with the strict budgets of the pre-Kelvin films. A great cast.
Top-notch SFX. Production design. The best score since the 90s. Better humor than most of the Trek films.

2) ST09
3) STID
4) STWOK

I'm still thrilled with Beyond. It felt so much like the original series. Best stuff was the Spock and McCoy scenes. Loved it.

I don't dislike TUC, I just like (no doubt in the minority here) TFF and NEM a little better.

I have the opposite view. Personally, any movie that can be summed up as "The egotistical director's self-insert fights God and wins!" can't be that good. It can be done right (when the stars align and the moon is blue and SEGA makes a good decision), but TFF was not an example of this.

Since it wasn't "God" who Kirk and crew ended up being in conflict with, I'm not sure how this comment is relevant. Also, if "Captain vs. False God" is a cause for dislike of a Star Trek story...I'm not sure how you can call yourself a fan since this was a common trope.

There are plenty of reasons to criticize TFF, but this one never held water for me.

Agree. And this comes from someone who has TFF at the bottom of the pile by a considerable margin.

TFF is the one I find most difficult to enjoy. I actually don't mind the premise, I think it had a potential to be as epic as TMP (not the brother thing, but a false god / false spiritualism theme) but it was just so poorly made, the desert scenes were awful, like they were trying to be Star Wars but came out lame and cheap looking. Maybe it's just me.

First Contact, TMP and Beyond, pretty much in that order. TWOK is my least favorite, largely due to Khan, followed by STID for the same reason. I just can't stand the character. I'll give kudos to TWOK for decent cinematography and I can watch it if I don't watch Space Seed first. In that one, Khan's intolerable. The episode literally leaves me cringing.

Star Trek 4 The Voyage Home I like the fact the story took place in 1980s San Francisco and the whale story about George and Gracie and Kirk and crew getting them back to the 23 century . I really like Gillian Taylor she's a great character and the fact the movie had an uplifting ending.

My favorite movies are The Untouchables. This is an old movie but with a very deeps sense and a lot of action. I enjoyed very much watching this movie. I think that I have already watched it 6 times since 2015. But, to be honest, in 2021, there is no excellent or engaging movie to watch. I think that all this happened due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Anyway, I am waiting for a lot of exciting movies to appear in 2022. *snip* So, this platform is posting the latest and most exciting movies with the most significant ratings.

I think this thread is about what you're favorite Star Trek film is.

As my byline below says, The Motion Picture is my favorite. It's the Star Trek film that made me a Trekkie (and I had previously seen TWOK and TSFS before that, both of which I saw in a new light after watching TMP).

I love TMP though. Probably the purest of the Trek films. First Contact is my favorite TNG film and Beyond is my favorite Abramsverse film.

It's also been dead for about 5 years.

@Gwyndolin , welcome to the board. Please take some time to review the rules of posting here, pinned at the top of this forum. Also, I'm not too sure about that website link....:shifty:

Thanks!
