Well if it is set when Spock was already in Starfleet makes it even less likely Sarek is a member ot the crew.
Menagerie was part of the season and it shows Spock in 2250s, so it is part of TOS.
STD, therefore, takes place in 2240s and is around 15ish
According to Memory-Alpha
A scene cut from the final script of "Journey to Babel" established that Sarek was previously an astrophysicist before becoming a diplomat. (Star Trek Compendium, 4th ed., p. 89)
So they're canonizing an previously cut fact.
He's the Vulcan Ambassador to Earth. He could be on a Starfleet Earth ship as part of a diplomatic mission under orders of the Vulcan government. From all indications this series will be telling one over-arching story in Season One. It's not the 'let's go to a new planet this week' paradigm of previous Star Trek series.Well if it is set when Spock was already in Starfleet makes it even less likely Sarek is a member ot the crew.
Not in discovery, as far as we know. His character description only says AstrophysicistHe's the Vulcan Ambassador to Earth.

That would be good and more entertaining for meOr not on a starship at all. We know there will be several different settings. No reason they couldn't include scenes on Vulcan or Earth.
When was Sarek an astrophysicist? He's a diplomat.![]()
I fully agree with you.Why are so many people assuming that the focus of the show will be solely on the crew of a single ship? That's the way it was done in the past, but this is something different. We already know that the cast includes crewmembers from two different Starfleet ships, some Klingon starship officers, a Klingon admiral, and a Starfleet admiral as well as Sarek. It should be clear enough that the story arc is going to span multiple settings and groups of characters. After all, this isn't episodic TV anymore. It's one big 13-episode arc. So naturally it's not going to be solely about the crew of one ship.
Let's hope they get on well. It's really not easy to tell that from one photo just over a month into shooting.I am glad the cast can get on well.
She was confirmed last year. (Reported on CBS' website, but strangely never an update on startrek.com)
Well, at least I'm not the only one who thinks this is the first time it's made official.Reported by CBS News (and other outlets), but it's not that startrek.com just hasn't updated it - there's been no official press release that I have seen.
Maybe he isn't Ambassador to Earth yet at the time this show takes place.Sarek cannot be Vulcan Ambassador to Earth and serving on Starfleet ships as well on far flung missions....
Really? Cool! I love it when they incorporate stuff like that.According to Memory-Alpha

And who said he was serving on the ship? He could just be reoccurring.
The original announcement was sufficient. A press release, www.startrek.com story, or 10 foot high letters on the Santa Clarita mountains are not necessary to "confirm" casting.Reported by CBS News (and other outlets), but it's not that startrek.com just hasn't updated it - there's been no official press release that I have seen.
