Stories you would have liked to have seen, the Voyager edition.

Tracy Trek

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
There doesn't seem to be a recent thread like this when I did a search for the above mentioned key words. So what are some plots or storylines that you would have liked?

I think I would have liked a follow up on Hugh and his group of drones cut off from the collective.

1) Include an episode - or a whole story arc - somewhere in Season 1 where it turns out the Maquis - or some of them - are not as happy to be friends with Starfleet as we saw them on Parallax. Get them in a conflict with Starfleet WITHOUT giving Seska a major role in this so that she can go on plotting with the Kazon the way she actually did on the show.

2) Have more stories about Seska and the Kazon planning their attack on Voyager. Have more secret communications between them, etc. and show that Seska and Michael Jonas had already been planning to do something major against Voyager before Jonas's story arc happens in Season 2. (Whatever they were trying to do before the events in Season 2 was foiled for some good reason.)

3) Susperia's story. Get the female Caretaker involved with Voyager a lot more and potentially make Endgame a story with the Caretaker(s).

4) Prototype: get Voyager involved with that conflict a lot more and give us a five-episode story arc. The robots control a large area of space which Voyager has to go through so once they've realized what kind of conflict they are embroiled in, they can't just get away from it but have to fight their way through it.

5) Threshold: have Janeway and Tommyboy's lizard babies grow up fast, which will turn them into some kind of superhuman beings with superhuman abilities and make them confront their parents in a later season. This could have given us our Nothing Human story, for example.

6) Have Kes's abilities manifest themselves a lot earlier on and use them to your advantage. Make a rule about why those abilities are limited so that she can't just get them home in a nanosecond. Get Voyager in a huge conflict with the Dinosaurs from Distant Origin, turn it into a story arc and have Kes play a major role in saving the ship. Preferably major enough to let her stay on the ship.

7) Once Leonardo da Vinci is introduced, have him contribute to more stories than just one. It seems that Seven is open to the whole Leonardo thing so make her work with him and confront Renaissance wisdom with borg philosophy once in a while.

8) Give us three times as many Hirogen stories and explain the past of these people. How come they never settled on a planet but carried on hunting and never saw what the Alpha Hirogen saw (without change they would hunt themselves to extinction)? Now that Janeway is friends with a group of Hirogens, show us that this has led to a conflict within the Hirogen society (does this exist at all?) and because of this a huge conflict is started involving Voyager. This might include Flesh and Blood or might just leave that story intact, in which case it serves as a conclusion to a large story arc spanning four seasons.

9) Throughout Season 4 show us Arturis's people from Hope and Fear and give us some hints how he is planning his revenge on Voyager. These should just be very short, twenty-second scenes, of which the viewer can't make much sense at the beginning but by the time of Hope and Fear, the whole story meshes into a whole.

10) Introduce Janeway's dilemma we see on Night a lot earlier and make it as mysterious as possible. Occasionally the Captain locks herself away in her quarters for days, nobody understands why but most of them suspect foul play. You can even turn this into a mutiny against her and show how the crew react when they find out the truth behind her behaviour.

11) Give the crew of the EQUINOX something to do and get them in a conflict with the Maquis crew from Learning Curve. One group accepts their situation on Voyager, the other not so much. While there's a conflict between them, Voyager gets attacked from the outside as well. How will this turn out? To add even more drama, get the people from Good Shepherd involved somehow and see what happens in a situation which will make them realize they are all in this together and if they don't work together, Voyager's journey will come to an end a lot sooner than expected.

12) Have some recurring villains in seasons 6 and 7 as well. Or if you can't come up with new villains, some of the older ones have joined their forces to start an all-out attack against Voyager. They are very powerful and Voyager is in a difficult situation but with borg modifications, they are not as vulnerable as the enemies originally thought.

Off the top of my head ...

I would have liked to see more with the freed Borg from Unimatrix Zero

Also I would have liked to see the original idea for Prophecy, where they run into the Klingon ship earlier in the show and B'Elanna falls in love with their engineer.

I would have loved a version of Endgame without time travel.

We saw background stories on B'Elanna, Chakotay, Seven and Neelix. I wish we had seen some more on Tom and Janeway. I know we 'knew' about their backstories but I would have liked to have 'seen' more of it via flashbacks. I suppose it can be argued that we did see a little bit of Tom's during TNG's The First Duty if you accept that Nick Larcano and Tom Paris are in effect the same person but to me, that's stretching it. It always bothered me that we knew he had these traumatic events in his life but we never saw any kind of after effects from them. With the exception of his daddy issues he just left everything else behind in the Alpha Quadrant never to be cross his mind again?

And Janeway had some interesting things happen during her time in Star Fleet....no memories of the Cardassian War?

I agree, I would have loved a canon backstory for Tom. We know from Caretaker he was involved in an accident and lied about it, but there is no canon details about it. I remember one of the producers saying there was a big difference between Tom's accident and Nick Locarno's accident. That is that Nick knowingly did something illegal and convinced others to do it. Tom had a pure accident, Nick was not a redeemable character where Tom was.

It could be argued that Tom was considered redeemable because he came forward on his own and Nick only told the truth when Wesley did. I'm not sure which viewpoint is right.

But like I said in another thread, sometimes the writers themselves seemed to forget they were not the same person. B'Elanna told Tom he was expelled in Drive.

It wasn't just coming forth with the truth, if we take the only source of Tom's backstory, Pathways, then they have a big difference. Nick knowingly did something illegal and convinced others to lie about it, and Tom was doing something completely routine and actually just had an accident.

I agree about how it would have been interesting to know more on Tom (what's happened to be considered as a felon by Starfleet; why he hates so much his father) and Janeway (what was her life before Voyager with her family & fiancés, her 1st command, the Cardassian war) .

Excellent thread by the way! :techman:

Tom Paris reminiscing about the time he was stuck with his daddy aboard the Al-Batani when they had to respond to a distress signal and Owen had an Ensign Janeway baby sit him.

Voyager encounters one of The Hundred.

^ Yep.

And I wouldn't say that Tom hated his father, as such. There was friction between the two, nobody's denying that. But anyone who's seen "Pathfinder" or "One Small Step" knows that there is still love there.

Anger is not the same as hatred.

My personal canon (and some of this is taken from the novel Mosaic) is that Tom probably idolized his father when he was very young. And Owen had a lot of ambitious thoughts about his young son who could already pilot a shuttle. Then Owen was captured by the Cardassians and tortured. Left with PTSD. Which happened to coincide with Tom's rebellious teen years, when nothing Tom did would please him because he had to mold him into the perfect officer. And their relationship just kept on in a down spiral. But after everything, and after thinking his son was dead for almost 4 years until Starfleet received word from Voyager via the Doctor, I think Owen probably mellowed out a bit.

Voyager encounters one of the hundred changelings

Voth joins the crew-perhaps Gegen.

Kes has to deal with the challenges of loving and living and life for so short a time.

The finale involving the Nacene-tieing into Caretaker.

Vaadvaur liked those guys.

Devore should have seen more

Mention of the dominion war-Janeway having the dilemma of what to tell her crew about a war for civilization back home.

I think an ending involving a Nacene would have been interesting if donw differently from Cold Fire. The little girl with the old smoker's voice was horrible. But involving the Cartetaker's mate could have been a nice bookend

The only way to say it is to say it:

My story "Coming Home" on the Kes Website should have been filmed instead that insulting piece of crap episode in season 3.

The final episode should have contained a final showdown with the female Caretaker and a real homecoming for our heroes.

Neelix should never have left and Carey shouldn't have been killed off.

What was wrong with Neelix leaving? It was the 2nd to last episode so its not like he was actually gone from the show. He found love, family, purpose, community, and all that among gps own people. His send off was beautiful

Because it made Neelix look like a quitter.

He, who always had promised to stand by Janeway's side. He, the Morale Officer who wanted so much to impress and contribute to the well-being of the crew.

Now why should he, the explorer and adventurer all of a sudden leave the ship, his Captain, his crewmates and his beloved mess hall to live on that horrible rock in the middle of nowhere?
