The X-Men Cinematic Universe (General Discussion)

There's certainly no guarantee it'll ever happen.

At this point, with how many apparent movies they have in development right now at the Marvel wing of Fox, I'd like to think that if they ever do bother with the Gambit movie, it'll be because they know the movie will be good enough to stand alongside the likes of Deadpool and Logan (and all the rest coming up.) If the movie doesn't look like it'll be good enough, there's no shortage of other X-Men stories and mutants they can put on the big screen instead.

@JD: All of the articles you linked to are "postmarked" BEFORE the article Turtletrekker linked to, and Stewart, in his comments about retiring, states point-blank that he came to the conclusion/realization that his tenure as Xavier has come to an end only after having for LOGAN for a third time, so unless he comes out and says he's changed his mind, there's no reason not to take him at his word that he's done playing Xavier.
The article about the Q&A was just posted yesterday. The Graham Norton show is more recent than that, so I guess that probably counters it anyways.

"Acker will star as Kate Stewart..."
Doctor Who fans will find the character's name amusing.

Also of note, one of the X-Men in the series will be Polaris, who is Magneto's daughter in the comics. Given that this series is supposedly set in the film continuity ("film continuity" Ha!), I have to wonder if they will be making that particular connection?

This makes two "real" X-Men from the comics (alongside Blink) to be cast, along with one newly-created-for-the-show X-Man.

Great news, I'm a big fan of Acker.
I was surprised to hear about Polaris being on the show, it will be interesting to see if she's Magneto's daughter here.
She is still Magneto's daughter in the comics, right? I know that they retconed away him being Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch's father, but I wasn't sure about Polaris.

Polaris being Magneto's daughter hasn't been retconed away in the comics. As for whether the show will use that connection or not, the franchise has such a mixed track record with how it treats X-Men characters that Polaris on the show could end up being Nightcrawler's daughter and I wouldn't be surprised at this point  In the comics, Polaris was raised by her mother and (I think) a step/adopteddad who she didn't know wasn't her real Dad, so they could start her out with normal parents but have Magneto being her dad be a surprise reveal if they wanted.

Fox is going to shovel out all the X-universe product it possibly can (outside of toys, because Disney won't allow it -- which is the reason there's a particularly frosty relationship between the studios). Especially after Independence Day 2 fell flat on its face, it's lost that sweet, sweet Star Wars distribution money outside of home video, Die Hard being effectively dead and having no idea when Cameron is actually going to start making his half-dozen or whatever sequels to Avatar, the X-Men series is basically Fox's one guaranteed ticket to cash.

August. Fox has a good idea since it's been announced to start filming in August.

He's been saying "we start shooting in three or four months" for like three years. Much like Dan Aykroyd's Ghostbusters 3 that he insisted was happening "in a few months" ... well, every few months, I'll believe it starts filming in August when I see SAG call sheets.

That would be awesome. Stewart seems open to the idea (based on what's being said online). He has a good sense of humor and done some pretty ridiculous comedy roles before, so I think that's probably what would get him to come back for deadpool, getting to do an appearance in something that's different then the standard X-Men movie. I really hope it happens.
