The X-Men Cinematic Universe (General Discussion)

Ah, good to know. I heard a similar report a few days ago but I didn't think it was credible. Glad that was quickly cleared up.

We need to come up with a more appropriate word for these stories. Because "reported" seems to be losing it's meaning with how often these rumors are debunked or never properly sourced and turn out to be gossip.

I usually just try to say "according to whatever site I read it on, or what site they're crossing referencing it from". I figure that way people can judge based on whether or not they trust the site.

At this point, the general credibility of 'entertainment sites' - unless they're one of the major 'Hollywood Trades' (Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and Deadline Hollywood), or another equally respected site such as Entertainment Weekly or People - doesn't mean much, at least with regards to LOGAN.

There seemed to be three sets of trilogies in the cinematic universe for "X-Men".

There is the original "X-Men" trilogy:
* "X-Men" (2000)
* "X-Men 2: X-United" (2003)
* "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006)

And there is the Xavier/Magneto trilogy:
* "X-Men: First-Class" (2011)
* "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014)
* "X-Men: Apocalypse" (2016)

And finally there is the Wolverine trilogy:
* "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" (2009)
* "The Wolverine" (2013)
* "Logan" (2016)

Well, the First Class cast appears to be returning for Supernova, so that one might need to be moved up to a quadrilogy, or you could split FC and DoFP into just a two movie arc and put Apocalypse with Supernova and any possible followups to that. DOFP is also a hard to place since it does bring back the cast from the first three movies.
There's also Deadpool and it's sequel, X-Force, and New Mutants. It also sounds like Matt Nix's new TV series will take place in the same universe as the movies.

What's the next X-Men movie after Logan?

It sounds like New Mutants, Supernova, and Deadpool 2 are all going to be filming this summer. There are currently 3 "untitled Marvel" movies scheduled from Fox for 2018.
-March 2
-June 29
-November 2
Plus a 4th scheduled for February 14 2019.

Since we heard about those 3 filming this summer, but nothing about X-Force filming that soon, it's not a bad guess to say that X-Force is likely that last one in February 2019.

It's also a decent guess to assume that the June 29 movie will move, since it's one week after Jurassic Park 5 and one week before Ant-Man 2. Don't want to be sandwiched between those two movies.

Sounds like New Mutants and Supernova are much closer to the filming stage than Deadpool 2, so I'll guess that one of those two is next.

Supernova? Where are you getting that title from?
It's a word that's been floating around with regards to the next X-Men movie. Could just be an internal project title, or a shooting title, or even a word on the script title page. It's not yet an official title of the movie, though the movie might possibly be called that.

Has there been any word on Deadpool's budget? Will they up it a little but keep it smallerish or dump a lot more into it because of #1's success?

Fant4stic 2 of course! :lol:

Is Gambit just never gonna happen then? They never quite made that October 2016 release date, huh

I know how this is going to sound, but according to one of my friends, who is an online film reviewer and saw the film two days ago, there is in fact a post-credits scene for Logan.

Ok, so it's not official then. I just used it because it's the name they've started using for it on sites like CBR and IGN.

While X-Men Supernova has not been explicitly confirmed as the title of the next "mainland" X-Men film, it is the name that was disseminated to a production website regarding said film, and the existence of that name is the thing that first confirmed that said film was in fact going to be happening (and happening sooner rather than later).

Even if it is, it's weird to think that in terms of length of time, he's played Xavier longer than he did Captain Picard.
2000-2017 vs 1987-2002

@JD: All of the articles you linked to are "postmarked" BEFORE the article Turtletrekker linked to, and Stewart, in his comments about retiring, states point-blank that he came to the conclusion/realization that his tenure as Xavier has come to an end only after having for LOGAN for a third time, so unless he comes out and says he's changed his mind, there's no reason not to take him at his word that he's done playing Xavier.

On yesterday's episode of Graham Norton, Stewart said this would be his last film (much to Hugh Jackman's surprise).

Kinberg says that both New Mutants and Deadpool will film this year so they can be released next year.

New Mutants we’re waiting on a new draft of the script ... and the plan is to make that movie late spring, early summer of this year,
So it sounds like New Mutants is probably going to be the first to go in front of the cameras. (And thus likely the next X-Men movie in theaters.)

Kinberg also said that they plan to film Gambit early next year. Now obviously take any Gambit plans and timelines with a big grain of salt, but at the very least this does answer the question about whether Fox still wants or plans to make the Gambit movie.
