Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

What is the main plot for "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" about?
Official synopsis:
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

More unofficially (according to James Gunn and Kevin Feige:
Basically, the Guardians get called to a planet called The Sovereign where they are asked to destroy a monster in exchange for Nebula. Something happens there that causes Ayesha to hire the Reavers to get the Guardians. They're being chased by the Reavers when they encounter Peter's father.

Obviously, that last part is vague. I anticipate the full-length trailer will clear things up when that happens.

Frankly I'm getting fed up of the number of trailers for everything, full stop.

Stacking up all the trailers for Rogue One basically spelled out the complete story for the film. I like to be teased, not given a complete breakdown of all the action beats and story turns.

I want to be surprised by what is to come, not spend my time waiting for "that bit in the trailer" to pop up. And then, in the case of some viewers, get pissed off that certain sections of trailers don't make it into the final film.

Paraphrasing what one great Cromulon said whilst judging over the Earth - Show me what you got... when you're finished, with a title header and credits. But no Post-Credits Stinger!

Hugo - DISQUALIFIED!

I have got nothing negative to say about the first film. I saw it in a theater when it was out. I enjoyed it a lot but have not watched it again and barely remember specific scenes just the characters.

Anyone else feel that way? I have been wondering if its age? I never heard of these characters before. I rarely rewatch movies anymore, even ones I really liked a lot, unless it's a franchise I have deep emotional connection with from when I was younger. Like Star Wars. Or is it that there is so much genre content on tv and in movies now? It's hard to set aside time to rewatch anything. Or some stuff even give a first look.

This is probably worth its own thread. But this movie in particular made me think of something I feel about a lot of movies recently. Sequel to a movie I liked? I will see it. But that is about my level of enthusiasm. These drawn out trickle marketing campaigns do not help much either.

If you don't want to have trailers spoil the movie for you, don't watch them. There is no reason they should lower the number of trailers because a few people don't like them. Now, I'll agree that having a teaser trailer for a trailer is really stupid, but I definitely don't want less trailers in general for movies.

Wow, that trailer was an enjoyable experience.

This movie looks like it's going to be extremely entertaining.

This feels like one of those movies that was a surprise success, but ruins it in the sequel by trying too hard. Now the characters seem in on the joke, with even Gamora acting fairly goofy. The only part of that trailer I actually liked was Kurt Russel, which is ironic because I hate how Gunn is using Ego. It is pretty impressive that Gunn has managed to make a movie that even a hardcore MCU fan like me doesn't really care about (and I actually like every single MCU movie so far, even Thor 2 and Ironman 2).

At this point Suicide Squad seems like it was a better GotG successor then GotG Volume 2 will be, and that's pretty sad. I mean, I'll still watch GotG 2 obviously, and I hope it will surprise me. But, its the first MCU movie that I think has the potential to be a movie I'll dislike. Its definitely the superhero movie I'm least excited to see this year (and I'm including Justice League in that statement).

I loved the trailer. We got a bit of a better look at Ayesha and her people, and we even got to see Ego finally.

Seems to me Gunn is one of those people that just know how to entertain people. :D

If you don't want to have trailers spoil the movie for you, don't watch them

Exactly.

Even after the ones for Guardians 2, I still have very little what the film is about for the most part and yet all the trailers make me want to see it EVEN more...That's how you do trailers!
