Batman with Ben Affleck-- Rumors, pic, etc;

Your argument literally was: TDK is considered the best comic book and superhero movie ever made "because all the previous 5 Batman movies sucked"! You literally said that seriously!!

I certainly didn't say TDK was the greatest comic book movie ever made, good as it was. I also didn't say that it was great BECAUSE the previous ones were crap.

I said I was surprised that it was so good as I didn't think very highly of the others...

The Netflix shows are Netflix shows. PERIOD. I was discussing movies and clearly stated so.
But it's still part of the same universe and still produced by Marvel Studios, so it still gets grouped in with the movies.

It's pretty obvious that I'm not talking about now. I was talking about when the aforementioned news stories broke. There is a definite double standard in the media even if you refuse to acknowledge it.

Well, excuse me for answering back to you. Now if you're finally finished let's get back to the "Batman with Ben Affleck-- Rumors, pic, etc" without all the Nolan bashing.
The biggest difference is that in most people's eyes Marvel has proven themselves repeated with movies that have been big critical, fan, successes so people are willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
DC on the other hand, has yet to deliver a movies that has actually managed to please the majority of fans and critics. It doesn't look good when something that has already failed repeatedly in many people's eyes appears to be failing even more.
He knows proper math?
Yeah, I didn't realize until just a year or two ago just how frickin' crazy Terrance Howard is.

In actual CBM news, Batman remains the most successful superhero ever, even in cute animated form! Warner Bros. Pictures’ The LEGO Batman Movie is still the No.1 movie in North America again this week!

True.

The big attendances for BvS and SS have been generated largely by the stature of the characters and are unlikely to continue unless the films improve.

DC's scattershot and disorganised attempts to get in the game are telling. Marvel introduced the characters and carefully planned the future. DC ignored their successful TV characters and parachuted a mid career Batman into Superman's universe and followed it with a movie about a bunch of established supervillains that seemingly popped up out of nowhere.

DC have some great raw material which has carried it a long, long way, but if they don't deliver some decently planned and executed movies, it's all for nought...

WB are right to keep the TV (2012 onwards) and the Movies (2013 onwards) separate. First of all, it means we get to have double the fun with two different takes on certain characters and stories at once and second, the TV shows are alot different in tone.

DCEU multiverse is a dam good idea and that's where WB have an advantage over Disney at the moment.

Arrow in its early(ish) days could have been written to fit in the cinematic universe had they wanted.

I have to admit, the DC multiverse idea does work for me - I'll look forward to Crisis on Infinite Formats. Whether that'll work for the casual non comic reading viewers I don't know, but...

You're suggesting mashing Man of Steel and Arrow in the same universe would have been a good idea?

I don't think you've thought this through...

Marvel is barely capable of linking "Agent of SHIELD" with the MCU movies. At least it hasn't been capable of doing so in a competent manner since 2014. At least DC Comics had the good sense to keep its television and movies in separate universes.

Ridley Scott's name is among those being floated for the director's chair. The last thing you can call Sir Ridley Scott is a "journeyman director"!

I would love for Ridley Scott to direct the film, but it won't happen. I'm not even thinking about him being a serious contender because it's so out of the realm of possibility in my mind. However, I've been wrong before...

I think we call that expanding the MCU by branching away from the movies.

Despite that the show has linked the MCU movies in many ways from having a fall of S.H.I.E.L.D story arc that went alongside Winter Soldier, Lady Sif appearing, Chitauri/Coulson story, Kree appearing, Expansion of the Hyrda storyline to name a few. AoS, allows Marvel to take on storylines that wouldn't get screen time in the movie-verse of the MCU and apart from a rocky start in season one, it's done it bloody well.

Now back to DC ;)

I would love for Ridley Scott to direct the film

I can't decide if this would work or not? I think his take on Batman would be interesting for sure.

I wouldn't trust Ridley Scott with much of anything to be honest. He's made a couple of movies I like, but...

Matt Reeves officially signed on as director:

http://variety.com/2017/film/news/the-batman-director-matt-reeves-1201994946/

“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child,” Reeves said. “He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”

EDIT: Apparently he's also signed on as a producer as well.

Welcome news. I wonder what the cause of the talks breaking down earlier this week were about? I imagine one of the parties was playing hardball.

It seems to be one thing after another with this movie. You'd think a Batman movie would be the easiest DC superhero movie to get made at this point. I'm really curious how long it will actually take to get this movie made.
