Spoilers Arrow - Season 5

Perhaps he's just much better at working in the shadows than Oliver is. ;)

That might've been credible a few years ago, but no way would Batman have sat out an alien invasion.

Yeah, but things have been quiet on the Prometheus front and messing with people close to Oliver is his MO, which makes me suspect there's something more going on there.

Possibly, yes. But Helix seems to me like it's something a lot bigger than Prometheus, and that it's more about giving Felicity her own arc independent of Oliver's.

(Plus Mini-Felicity is pretty cute and I don't want her to be evil.)

Maybe it's a budget thing?
The old regulars probably get more money per episode now than the newbies, so maybe to cut costs some of the old ones have to go away for a few episodes.

It's not unusual for Canadian-made shows to leave out one or two cast members in certain episodes to save money, but it's usually just for one episode at a time -- e.g. one episode leaves out one actor, the next leaves out a different one, etc. A sustained absence like this, one that isn't plot-motivated and has the writers needing to make excuses for why she isn't seen on camera, feels like an attempt to work around a real-life absence.

He was posing as an alien mechanic while setting explosives on all the alien ships. He decided not to activate the explosives. Instead, he launched Brother Eye to watch out for any other alien incursions.

No idea. And the Aruba comment was more about throwing out something, anything, and wondering if the show is on break from shooting or if she's on an extended break.

Why did they go to so much trouble to reveal Earth 2 Laurel to this show, only to have her locked up again and introduce a new Black Canary? What was the point?

I thought the episode made it pretty clear that the incident with Black Siren was the catalyst for Oliver to realize he needed to get moving on his promise to pass on the Black Canary mantle. Maybe it helped drive home that his Laurel was really gone and it was time to accept that and move forward.

And presumably the other point is that they only have Katie Cassidy signed for so many episodes. It seems pretty clear that they do intend to revisit Black Siren/Laurel-2 eventually, but it's not like she was about to insta-reform and become a good guy in one week. That would've been pretty bad writing. I think they teased the prospect of Laurel's return and had it go wrong in order to underline the point that there was no easy reset button here.

This is the longest that Arrow has gone into the season without revealing the identity of the main villain.
I doubt it's Tommy because they would have probably made more of an effort to at least mention him and explain his history to new viewers by now.

I'm just really hoping it's not Talia, because antihero Talia is much more interesting than villain Talia, and villain Talia has been done recently.

Regarding Thea, they tend to give their characters a break during the season, probably to keep their cost down. Quentin just got back from a few episode break, and now it's Thea's turn. And with the rags dormant, Rory gets a break now.

Why is the actor who played Tommy Merlyn credited as Prometheus on imdb?

Because some of the IMDb editors are idiots who can't tell the difference between one fan's online speculation and a verified fact. Unfortunately, other websites assume IMDb is reliable, and so we end up with totally untrue speculations like Victoria Vetri playing Isis in Star Trek: "Assignment: Earth" being reported as fact even on Star Trek websites. (There was a time before Star Trek Nemesis came out when its IMDb cast list included virtually every actor who'd ever played a Romulan in TNG, DS9, or VGR.)

the commentors seem to be more interested in Katie Cassidy who's pretty much been written out of the show and not really missed than Willa Holland.

Holland seems to be an underrated actress on the show. She brings a lot and I miss her. Glad she's coming back.
