I'm preeeeetty sure he succeeded. Somehow I think your twisted view of the world is translating into your head as "my opinion is the everyday man's opinion, and I'm just an average person not a grumpy forum troll." That's the only thing that really makes sense here.
Well I'll admit to being grumpy at times, but I've never trolled in my life

He's just writing his own stories and sticking Marvel character names on them, just like most of the old crappy superhero movies that were made before Blade/Spider-Man/X-Men (outside of some exceptions obviously, like the christopher Reeves Superman). It just sucks to see the MCU treat most of their characters really well, then have Gunn come in and write stuff with absolutely no knowledge of the characters outside of glancing at wikipedia entries.
It reminds me of Tim Burton. He makes Batman without total control, and while its a poor adaptation of the character its still a fun, entertaining movie. Then, they give him more creative control, and he craps out Batman Returns. It had barely any Batman in it, a terrible story, and is mostly just a gross, creepy, poorly done Tim Burton movie with Batman characters. That's what GotG 2 seems to be, the Batman Returns of the MCU.
That is, of course, just my opinion. I don't care if anyone agrees or not, and I don't mind people disagreeing. I'll still see it. I sat through Batman v Superman and even own Fant4stic on Blu ray, so I'm obviously a sucker for superhero movies. It just sucks to know that the MCU, which I love, is possibly putting out its first bad movie, or at best a movie that's not terrible but probably a bit below Thor 2 on the list of best to least good MCU movies. At least there is still Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: ragnarok to look forward to, and even Wonder Woman looks like it could be good.
