Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

I'm preeeeetty sure he succeeded. Somehow I think your twisted view of the world is translating into your head as "my opinion is the everyday man's opinion, and I'm just an average person not a grumpy forum troll." That's the only thing that really makes sense here.

Well I'll admit to being grumpy at times, but I've never trolled in my life  Also, I know my opinion isn't the majority. I know that the majority of people will praise Gunn whatever he does, and that's their right. As someone who actually enjoys the comics, and doesn't enjoy George Lucas style kiddie characters, I find Gunn to be just as bad now as he was when he was writing terrible Scooby Doo movies, outside of one lucky accident with GotG 1.

He's just writing his own stories and sticking Marvel character names on them, just like most of the old crappy superhero movies that were made before Blade/Spider-Man/X-Men (outside of some exceptions obviously, like the christopher Reeves Superman). It just sucks to see the MCU treat most of their characters really well, then have Gunn come in and write stuff with absolutely no knowledge of the characters outside of glancing at wikipedia entries.

It reminds me of Tim Burton. He makes Batman without total control, and while its a poor adaptation of the character its still a fun, entertaining movie. Then, they give him more creative control, and he craps out Batman Returns. It had barely any Batman in it, a terrible story, and is mostly just a gross, creepy, poorly done Tim Burton movie with Batman characters. That's what GotG 2 seems to be, the Batman Returns of the MCU.

That is, of course, just my opinion. I don't care if anyone agrees or not, and I don't mind people disagreeing. I'll still see it. I sat through Batman v Superman and even own Fant4stic on Blu ray, so I'm obviously a sucker for superhero movies. It just sucks to know that the MCU, which I love, is possibly putting out its first bad movie, or at best a movie that's not terrible but probably a bit below Thor 2 on the list of best to least good MCU movies. At least there is still Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: ragnarok to look forward to, and even Wonder Woman looks like it could be good.

There is nothing wrong with selling toys. its "making the character enjoyable" that they haven't figured out yet, although to be fair no writer, ever, could make Baby Groot work as more than a one off joke concept, or a very, very short lived character.

From what I've seen so far, Baby groot makes Jar Jar look hilarious, and I say that as someone who hates Jar Jar. I'd say they're about equal when it comes to being poorly conceived. I'll admit that Groot doesn't have the questionable accent and, hopefully, not the scatological comedy. But, he's just about as bad a character from what I've seen, just in different ways.
I wish baby Groot remains baby Groot in the next films as well. Did you see how cute he was in his little outfit yelling? That joke will never grow old!

Oh boy! I really hope you're right about this one! If that's the case then we're in for a real treat with GotG v.2!

Was bored to tears watching the trailer. Seriously, it's just a few jokey scenes cobbled together. What's the story of this movie again? I wish the trailers would give even the remotest hint of an idea that there's some kind of story because so far they've failed miserably. Stale old jokes aren't really selling me on this.

It's not a trailer. It's a 30-second spot for the Super Bowl.

Yeah, this wasn't a real trailer. I'm pretty sure we'll get at least one more full trailer, and that one will probably be a bit more story focused. And to be honest, the humor and action are the things I loved most about the first one, so I don't mind the marketing for Vol. 2 focusing a lot on those aspects.

What is the main plot for "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" about?

Kurt Russel plays Star Lords father. The Ravagers decided not to hand him over as a child (they mention that near the end of the first movie) but I'm guessing him becoming a hero to the people of Nova Prime has brought a lot of attention, and now his dad knows where he is.

That and both Yandu and Nebula are joining the team, with Mantis having odd prophecies that lead them into whatever the adventure is.

A couple things to remember:

1) A trailer is not supposed to be a synopsis. It's not supposed to tell you what the plot is months before you see the the movie. It's supposed to excite you, not inform you. It's a commercial, not a book report. :)

2) A Super Bowl trailer is not aimed at us hardcore fans who have been tracking this movie since it was green-lighted and already know who is in it. It's aimed at the general audience who just need to know that "remember that cool movie you liked a couple years ago, with those characters you fell in love with? They're coming back this summer!"

That's really all the commercial needed to say--and all we need to know at this point.

This new IGN article does go into a bit of detail about the plot.
The Guardians are hired by Ayesha, who is the leader of a alien race called the Soverign here, in exchange for getting Nova from them, but Rocket ends up screwing things up and she hires the Ravagers, now led by Taserface, to get them. The article doesn't say anything about how Mantis and Ego tie into that. It also says that they'll end up splitting up, at least temporairily, to go off on their own "journeys".

IGN has posted a couple more articles from the same set visit as the above article.
The first one focuses on Yondu, Mantis, and Nebula's roles, and a bit about some of the new planets and ships.
The references to a
planet called they called "J'Son", aka Star-Lord's dad in the comics, makes me think we will be visiting Ego in his planet form
.
The second article is a bit more of a general overview, talking about where we pick up in relation to the first movie, and what the characters are dealing with this time around.
