The Rani.As for all the Eva Green suggestions, I think she'd be a better fit as a villain, or a mysterious companion....perhaps as the next Master/Missy
My initial idea, but seeing the Master can regenerate into a woman now, and no one in the general public really knows who she is, I suppose she's basically redundant now.The Rani.
Oh, that is in interesting an idea. I actually watched "Hide" again the other day and I was marveled by her performance. And it was the first time I've seen the episode since I saw her great performance as Verity in An Adventure in Space and Time.Lance Parkin made an intriguing suggestion on Facebook -- Jessica Raine. I hadn't considered her, but she'd be quite brilliant. And why he'd choose her over Olivia Colman:
In all seriousness though, I think an oriental Doctor or companion would be fantastic, it's something that doesn't seem to have been mentioned before.I think that the BBC should go with a Chinese actor to open the show up to the Chinese market. Jet Li? Jackie Chan?![]()
Tom Riley would be a great choice! I'd take Luke Evans as well, but yeah Tom Riley's a good idea.We know the Beeb apparently want a fashionable Tennant/Smith type with possible US appeal, and therefore a bloke under 40. If we take it as a reasonable chance that it'd also be somebody who's worked with Chibnall before, I'd say the most likely names I could think of (cos it's as likely to be a theatre/soap actor I've never heard of and therefore *can't* name) would be Luke Evans or Jack Roth. Though if I was casting to that restriction I'd be looking for Tom Riley (who was quite Doctor-ish as Leo in Da Vinci's Demons, and I wouldn't care that he looks a bit like that Robin Hood...)
That's what we should have had this past year! If not a full series, then perhaps a few extra-length 8th Doctor specials peppered throughout the year à la 2009.I REALLY want to see McGann get a proper series as the Doctor!
@Lonemagpie Moffat had never worked with either Smith or Capaldi though had he? So it's by no means certain Chibnall will pick someone he knows.

Actually now you mention it, I think D'Arcy would be a fantastic choice, I wouldn't quite label him safe, but he's definitely not risky. He'd be different though, I think he'd be very interesting in the role.I can picture James D'Arcy as a very "safe" choice.
Yes, please. With Ben Browder as the companion.Claudia Black
Oh, where did he say that?I'm liking Paul McGann's suggestion of Tilda Swinton.
