Watching Trek on Netflix and reading about it over the past few years while intermittently watching Enterprise has increased my appreciation for the song.

It's not as grand as Voy or DS9 or iconic as TNG but speaks to Trek's ideals both as a franchise and human progress in RL.

I like it when it says it's been along time getting from there to here-from the Menagerie to TATV and from flight being a dream to routine travel, from ignorance to progress. It's very touching in that way.

Same. At first I kinda groaned at it, but it has grown on me to the point that I now enjoy hearing it at the beginning of each episode. It's really inspiring. If the point of Star Trek is to say "we'll get through this, we'll get there" -- and I think it is -- then this song is perfect for setting that tone.

My gf makes fun of me for liking "that weird Rod Stewart song." Her loss!

(DS9's season 4 theme is probably the best of them, though.)

As I've noted before, the Lady Sho-Rin and I liked it enough to use it as the closing theme for our 25th anniversary party. Probably need it again this June for 40.

I never felt the urge to rock out to this song, but I never had a problem with it as a STAR TREK theme - most of which I've found to be too garish, or pretentious, to begin with. I know a lot of Trekkies don't like the more upbeat version of "Faith of the Heart" used in the later seasons, but I prefer it, actually. It's more in recognition, it seems to me, of being a television theme, than trying to be Top 40 fare ...

Thank you for this post. It's nice to hear a kind word about the ENT theme song from time to time

I always thought the lyrics fit the premise of the first 2 seasons, and perhaps season 4 as well.

The problem is the song wasn't written for Star Trek.

I have always unashamedly liked the song. It was also used at one of the Commonwealth Games themes, and originally in the movie Patch Adams though that version is slightly different in style.

I find it kinda inspires me when I'm down in the dumps.

I always liked the theme from the first 2 seasons. I thought it was pretty inspiring. I didn't like the more uptempo version, it sort of ruined it and took the sense of wonder out of it.

I get why it might've been jarring for people used to opening Trek series with an orchestral score, but I never really had a problem with either version of the song. I do wish they'd kept the "Star Trek" off the title and kept it as "Enterprise". I liked how that distinguished the show.

BTW, for some reason, the version used for the show was retitled "Where My Heart Will Take Me".

Different twist for me with that song. I liked it a lot when I first started watching any Trek and Enterprise when it was on the air. I was catching episodes from various series and always felt Enterprise had the best theme song.

However.... As I became more and more a fan of the the Trek universe, the more I disliked that song and series. It just felt not right after I familiarised myself with other series. Hate to say it like that, but it's true for me. There's certain parts of the series I do love and still watch from time to time, but I always have to skip over that theme intro. Lol

I won't forget that feeling of air being let out of a balloon the night Enterprise premiered with this song. It pissed me off further when I learned the song was originally written for Patch Adams. You're not supposed to steal another movie or TV show's theme for your own use. It's very jarring.

I liked it from the start. The way it was connected with the montage worked very well for me. At the time, I was watching it with my daughter, who was around 8 years. When the line came, "strength of the soul" the shot was of the footprint (of the astronaut's sole) and we would both point to our feet and giggle.

    I've never minded FOH!
But you wonder if a more traditional 'Trek' theme might have worked out too.

There are quite a few interesting 'alt themes' on YouTube, including using the End Credits theme:

This one too with alternate (blurry) visuals...

the narration used in that second video is from a video that was posted on startrek.com back during Season 3 or 4.

I think it was described as an alternate opening or something.

The Alternate Intros two posts above are actually very good, but I really grew to love FOH. The first 2 seasons is a bit slow for my tastes but I absolutely love seasons 3 and 4. That is actually my favorite Star Trek theme ever. The opening makes me love the Enterprise series even more. I never skip over the opening.

I found it jarring initially. It seemed out of place compared to the classic Jerry Goldsmith score for TNG or the themes for Voyager and DS9. Now while going through a re-watch of the series it doesn't grate like it used to. The remix from seasons 3 and 4 is an improvement also.

It was jarring at first because I was always used to no lyrics in my Star Trek themes but the words with the sequences of great achievements throughout history, really worked well together. Sadly they then stuck that stupid fast beat in the season 3 & 4 versions because that was going to boost ratings :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I do love that intro though and it probably should of been the one we got.
