NG potential sequel episode to a TOS episode?

As Next Generation "The Naked Now" followed up on the events of TOS "The Naked Time".
Do you think it would have been an interesting NG episode to follow up on the events of TOS "A Piece Of The Action" to have seen perhaps what Iotians advancements resulted due to McCoy's communicator being left behind?

I believe the idea for doing a sequel to Action with that premise went as far back as TNG and was thought of for DS9, but was dismissed as potentially upsetting the fanbase, but the movie Galaxy Quest proved them wrong.
