This is what we assumed at first but from all the promo material ot looks like they're a core 9, there's nothing that hints at them being divided into core and secondary members so far.

Well, it's not just an assumption; it was stated outright in the initial announcement posted in this thread on December 2 that "Red, Black, Blue, Yellow, [and] Green are core." Although the original source did acknowledge that the information was not necessarily accurate.

Anyway, the franchise has been using the word "Go" long enough (in both the Japanese and American versions) that its use has probably transcended the original bilingual pun on the number 5.

Which is why I disregard it, if red/blue/yellow/black/green were the core team I'd expect them to be grouped together or separated from the others somehow but they're not, looking at all promotional shots the presumed core and secondary rangers are always mixed together and, they are consistently treated as a single team.

I think the rumor came from the main megazord consisting of red/blue/yellow/black/green but that doesn't mean anything, Kyoryuger and Zyuohger's initial main megazords consisted of three mecha each but they didn't have a core three.

I think Tenbin Gold and Hebitsuki Silver will be a homage to Go-buster's Jin and J

Which looks kinda ridiculous even by Sentai standards.

That suit looks uncomfortably tight in the groin area.

It's hardly unprecedented... Megaranger / Rangers in Space had helmets which lit up to show all sort of high-tech gadgets, such as a PC (with CRT monitor!!!), or cellphone (with physical buttons!!!). Then there's stuff like ToQger's locomotive-themed helmets (with tracks across the face!!!).

It's not the concept, it's the specific execution. That particular design looks clumsy to me. Maybe there's another way to do it that wouldn't be as clumsy, though I'm unconvinced. Anyway, at least the Megaranger helmets only lit up with those images occasionally. In repose, they had just black circular areas that looked pretty good.

Fair enough. Perhaps the designer could have put a little more thought into it, since most of the rest are pretty cool... Also, I've noticed other subtle differences in the suits, for example that not everyone has molded "mouths" (which IMO *are* pretty ridiculous regardless of the context), or even consistent "rings" around their limbs or shoulders. It's a common theme, but with few actually common elements.

And it's occurred to me that this show, regardless of how many people they're starting off with, will certainly add more members to the team. There's at least twelve major constellations after all (I'm currently finishing KR Fourze, whose "Zodiarts" baddies use a similar theme) plus any number of interpretations of them (there's a bunch of plot potential to leverage Ursa Major / Ursa Minor rangers, IMO). How many more colors could there be though, they've got pretty much all the common Ranger suit spectra covered..!

It would sort of ruin the Kyu(9) ranger motif the series had if a 10th ranger was introduced.

I'm thinking a bangai hero i.e an auxiliary ranger who only shows up part time will be introduced.

For example Bull Black/Magna Defender or Signalman/ Blue Centurion.

We should know in a few weeks when the 2nd toy quarter catalog leaks

In fact, there are 88 constellations. Twelve of them constitute the Zodiac, the group of constellations that intersect the ecliptic, i.e. the Earth's orbital plane (so that the Sun appears to pass through them over the course of the year). Of the constellations used by the Kyurangers, only Leo (ShishiRed), Scorpius (SasoriOrange), Taurus (OushiBlack), and Libra (TenbinGold) are in the Zodiac. Well, technically part of Ophiuchus (HebitsukaiSilver) passes through the ecliptic as well, but the Babylonians ignored that when they defined the Zodiac because they wanted to divide the Sun's passage into 12 segments to match their lunar calendar.

8472: Well, we had Dekaranger a while back (over a dekade, at this point :P ), whose name had the dual meaning of ten rangers and a Japanese slang word for police detective, which was part of its theme. Most of the 6+ rangers in that story were the occasional type you describe (much like Kyoryuger / Dino Thunder), but everyone did get back together for the finale. Regardless, there's always goign to be nine STARTER rangers in Kyuranger, so that number will always be part of the thing if they decide to add more.

Chris: Lots of extra possibilities, then. :) I highly doubt though they'll seriously rationalize nine EARTH constellations for nine non-Terran characters, but that's rarely a thing sentai deigns to explain on a regular basis...

Second trailer for the Power Rangers movie, with completed effects and action sequences:

So now we see how they're doing Zordon -- it's not quite what I expected. We also hear Zordon's and Alpha's voices for the first time, and see the Rangers (and Rita and Goldar) in action. I'm still not sure what to make of it, but it definitely looks lighter in tone than the teaser trailer did -- which is typical of trailers, of course, since the usual formula these days is to do at least three trailers, each with a different tone and emphasis.

That was an ok trailer. Alpha 5 was lame, but with that design that was guaranteed. There were a few ok jokes, and the suits looked ok in action. I think the rap/pop song of the trailer actually made me think less of the trailer, but forgetting that the trailer was ok. That said I'm a big PR fan so I might be deluding myself with hope that this won't be a bad movie  Anyway, I'm excited. If nothing else, the movie will definitely be interesting, and hopefully it will also be good.

I remember when it was a big deal to say "ass" on TV, lol. Anyway, it looks to be a pretty solid take on the franchise. It's faithful enough while making it look like something that won't send teens and adults cringing away. Whether or not it looks like something that appeals to teens and adults, I don't know. Still not sure about the indistinct designs for the megazord or Goldar.

That was actually a pretty good trailer. It looks a lot more fun now than it did after the first trailer.
Their version of Zordon was not at all what I expected, I was expecting more of a freefloating hologram, but it's actually not bad.
I like the designs for the Zords, but I'm not sure what to make of Goldar yet.
