Bandai Japan had their annual meeting with toy stores and online retailers to tell them about the new sentai. This is so they can figure out how much to order for the upcoming 1st quarter toys Most noteably there will be 9 rangers to start. http://news.tokunation.com/2016/12/02/uchuu-sentai-kyuuranger-first-details-cranejoe-37715
The constellation names given there are, of course, Japanese. The equivalents are: Shishi (Lion) = Leo Sasori (Scorpion) = Scorpius Ookami (Wolf) = Lupus Oushi (Ox) = Taurus (Bull) (Chamaeleon and Libra are given) Hebitsukai (Snake Charmer) = Ophiuchus (Serpent Bearer) Washi (Eagle) = Aquila Kajiki (Swordfish) = Dorado (dolphinfish or swordfish) The "Whale" is obviously Cetus (Kujira in Japanese), and the hunting dog must be Canes Venatici (Ryouken in Japanese), although that constellation represents hunting dogs, plural (specifically those belonging to Bootes the herdsman, the adjacent constellation). I can get the various animals as the basis for Rangers/mecha, but how do you pull off a costume or a robot based on a pair of scales (Libra)? Or a snake charmer? I think this will be the first official Orange Ranger, unless you count DekaSwan/Kat Manx, who was white/orange. And isn't it unusual to have both Black and Green on the same core team?
Eh, Alpha looks fine, I guess. I could do without those eyes. But given Bill Hader is doing the voice, I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Pretty much everything I've seen so far from this movie (aside from the Alpha eyes) has me excited.
Hardly the first official orange ranger http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Sentai_Orange Toqger had Toq-6 Zyouhger just debuted Zyou Bird the 7th ranger And Liveman had a green and black on the core team and so did RPM
^Ah, okay. I didn't know about those Orange Rangers because neither has been adapted to Power Rangers yet. It seems to be a recent but fairly regular thing now. I wonder why. Does the franchise have a new producer who likes orange?
9 rangers it is. Pictures are going to leak slowly through the weekend and next week FIrst green female core member
Wow, some of those helmet designs are really abstract. I'm having a hard time seeing "Lion" in the Red Ranger's helmet pattern.
Having nine rangers is pretty cool, and I'm glad they're using Orange again. Based on that blurry pic, the designs are pretty interesting.
I don't like the cube-based one at all. I'm generally not a fan of the boxier Zords/Robos. The ToQger train-based one was really clumsy-looking.
^Ah, I found the idea of blocks stacking up on each other pretty unique after years of animal/vehicle forms. While they are sort of stiff looking at times, overall not too bad for a kids show. I watched a few ToQger episodes and that Zord was just as you said clumsy, but Japan loves their trains.
Still not high quality but some more details Red's ShiShiVoyager(Torso of KyuRenOh) is the base and it's likely it will fly around in space Blurry image of Red's mecha cockpit toy. Sort of like Prime Spock's Time ship in Star Trek 2009 Catchphrase for the show is "Uchuu Sensou, Shidou!" Or "Start the Space War!" The Henshin call seems to simply be "Souchaku!!" Or "Equip!"
Sailor Moon crossover, incoming! Designs look pretty cool. The last couple years of blocky design had been turning me off. Hopefully this will have a decent story to back up the spiffy designs. Aside - currently working my way through Kamen Rider Fourze. Didn't think I'd like it as much as I have been, what with the carbon copy-nss of the "Glee" characters and the high school setting in general. But I love space stuff (QED Kyuuranger, above), so Fourze himself has been pretty fun to watch. So much so that the majority of the stuff I brought back from Japan in October was Fourze figures. Mark
Granted, I haven't read much PR fan fiction, but I can't imagine anything about Alpha being a turn-ON... Mark
