Spoilers The Flash - Season 3

Did anybody else laugh when Julian was strapped to the chair and took a moment (before releasing Savitar's consciousness into his head) to tell Barry that they still wouldn't be friends afterwards? Seriously, Julian? Priorities, Buddy! Priorities!

It occurred to me that Julian's strong, almost visceral dislike for Barry might be subconscious as a result of Alchemy. In other words, the part of Julian's personality that is Alchemy dislikes Barry because of Savatar's hatred for the Flash.

^I'd agree. Joe indicated they had only known each other for about an year. It'd mean Julian came along between Season 1 finale and Season 2 premire (six month gap). His dislike of Barry was out of place. I'm guessing the events of Season 2 were...somewhat different after flashpoint, especially all those scenes at the CCPD.

If he can put his finger inside one of the valves or two and disrupts the blood flow- the strength of the heart muscle doesn't matter.

Of course it does. That blood flow is propelled by superstrong muscles. His tissues aren't strong enough to create any meaningful obstruction. It's the same dynamics as Larry Niven described in "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex." For that matter, how could he possibly obstruct valves whose contraction would just slice right through his fingers as if they weren't even there? You might as well try to obstruct a wood chipper with your fist.

Me thinks you are taking this too seriously

But the whole thing suggests Barry and Zoom can control degrees of "phasing" different parts of the arm/hand are. He probably can get around it. You have no idea how strong a Kryptonian blood flow is. I doubt it's proportional to her ability to lift a car.

Seriously? This isnt real.

Don't know why you'd think that. Exploring the ramifications of a sci-fi idea in ridiculous detail is a recreational activity for geeks.

Yeah, but they're not like Martian Manhunter with his ability to increase or decrease the density of his body at will. They're just (supposedly) vibrating so fast that they become porous to normal matter. So the normal solidity of a human body is the maximum degree of solidity they're able to achieve. They can't increase it from there.

Again: The heart is a muscle. Blood flows because it is pushed by that muscle. So this is a conversation about the proportional strength of Kryptonian muscles vs. human tissue. A human hand could not resist the pressure of a Kryptonian heart valve any more than it could resist the swing of a Kryptonian fist.

Seriously? This isnt real.

Which doesn't mean it isn't worth exploring logically. That's what science fiction and fantasy are all about -- positing an imaginary set of rules and parameters and examining how they would apply. That's old hat for comic books. In the Silver Age, when violence in comics was a no-go, tons of stories revolved around exploring the intricate details of how the characters' powers worked and what their ramifications were. And countless fan discussions have revolved around analyzing hypothetical scenarios -- could the Flash beat Supergirl? Could the Millennium Falcon beat the Enterprise? What would happen if a werewolf bit a vampire? And so on. There's no point in even having the conversation if you just say "Any random thing is possible." It's an exercise in imagination, of course, but it depends on accepting that there is an internal logic to the fantasy scenario.

I agree with Christopher; it's highly unlikely that Barry - or any other speedster, good or evil, for that matter - could hurt Kara if she weren't depowered, even by "phasing" through her.

I hope they further explore H.R.'s personality. This is a guy who basically faked being a genius and then learns that his alternate Earth dopplegangers are real geniuses. That has to be messing with his self-worth on some level. Why is he different? Could he actually be a genius but never followed-through on his education? [And that doesn't even get into his learning that at least one very successful alternate Wells has a genius speedster daughter.]
Agree with all of that, but I also want to visit his earth. Could be like a 50s or 60s periodic motif based on what he wears.

You know how a bubble in the heart can cause havoc ...?

Hmm, maybe there's a way he could create an air pocket -- but given that he'd probably have to solidify his hand to a degree in order to do so, I still think he'd come out of the interaction far worse off than Supergirl would. It'd be like solidifying his hand inside a block of steel.

Although if you think about it, Reverse Flash shouldn't be able to hurt others by phasing through them without hurting himself in the process. If he solidifies inside them, then they're solidifying inside him too. So it isn't really something that makes a lot of sense to begin with.

That was pretty neat episode, in several aspects, as a conclusion to some current arcs, setup for the future and surprisingly as a really nice holiday special. Cisco finally came to terms with losing his brother, Wally finally got the go ahead to become Kid Flash, and I like that Caitlin is finally getting more comfortable with her powers.

The Earth-3 intro was fun, it's nice that the show isn't shying away from multiverse-hopping, Jay as mentor was on point again, though by the end he seemed like he knew or suspected more than he let on.

I see Flash also got the "relationship scenes" apartment set, hopefully instead of Barry just running away from every date they had, or them freaking Joe out with their making out, we'll finally get to see them actually have a relationship before Iris dies.

Kidding, of course, Iris is surely safe because this isn't Season 4 of Arrow ;)
Julian is doomed though, Caitlin likes him. :D

The Flashs don't actually stop phasing inside the bodies they merely slow down the vibration to allow the rapidly moving hand, finger or whatever cause maximum vibrational damage to the intended body part. They are protected by the speed force aura from suffering any damage themselves. It's also the aura that would allow the super speed movement to disrupt even Supergirls internal workings.

The heart is a muscle. It's as strong as the rest of her muscles. Having Barry "hold" it with all his strength would be about as useless as having him arm-wrestle her.
He could always try to use the Vision's shtick of slightly increasing his density while phasing thru her and shocking her system.

See, this is why I hate the Speed Force. It can be invoked as a magic handwave for anything that doesn't make sense.

Again, though, speedsters can only reduce their solidity, not increase it beyond normal.

Isn't there a theory where infinite speed equals infinite mass...wouldn't a punch thrown at a high enough velocity hurt even a Kryptonian?
