You, known the more I think about it, Trek has dabbled in Native American religions. Starting in TNG's "Journey's End" and continuing (IIRC) with Chakotay on Voyager.

Also, all of those Klingon epidosdes. Those people can't stop talking about the afterlife. Honestly, the whole Klingon culture makes a lot less sense without a religion. Its not just about philosophy or secular honor either.

Religion is defined as a system of faith and worship. I don't think it requires that the existence of the deity be unprovable. You could have an actual person and if people worship him/her then it would be a religion.

I think the increase of adult subject matter in iconic texts is just the way they happen to evolve. Just look at the 007 franchise: in Quantum of Solace, M uses the "s" word, Skyfall saw the first ever use of the "f" word while there was some more milder profanity continued in Spectre. None of it was necessary and, frankly, took me out of the film for a split second. I question the need for the profanity. Does it make it more modern? Is it meant to be edgier? But, I can't see it killing the show, just like the 007 films.

Or even if that's the case. Without facts, your conspiracy theory about Fuller's inefficiency is just as valid as the "panicky" people's theory about evil CBS's butchery. So you see, there's nothing "obvious" about it at all. Obviously.

As much of a tech/science aficionado as I am, I still felt the latter seasons of Voyager and DS9 were too technobabble heavy. This is one of the most successful ways JJ Trek revitalized the series. ie not to go too in depth with the details. I honestly think the shows lost a decent percentage of fans from that.

What available evidence exactly? CBS' announcement about Fuller (himself) stepping back (and not getting fired)? CBS' announcement about Fuller remaining as executive producer? Or perhaps Fuller's interview about him choosing American Gods over Star Trek Discovery? Because Discovery wouldn't let him comment enough on social issues? Which available evidence and public announcements support your theory about Fuller "not being up to it" exactly? Because everything available to us right now actually contradicts you.

It doesn't have to be a thumbs up thumbs down situation. I mean, consider that TNG took three years to get its footing. It's not a death-sentence even if the show does starts out sucking. It all depends on the commitment of CBS to make it work.

One year. Come on. Season two was pretty good. Season three was excellent.

We have heard some profanity before in Trek. It's just been mild and limited. Spock saying "Go to hell" in TUC and Data saying "OH SHIT" in GEN, iirc. I seriously doubt DSC is going to sound like it was written by Quentin Tarantino. But an occasional "shit" or "goddamn"? Probably not something to get worked up about.
