Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Has anyone modded their ships?

I've pulled off the mission pod of 1 of my Danubes, and painted engine colours with permanent markers on other ships.

Was that difficult to do? I've considered getting another runabout and removing the mission pod but was curious how tough or risky it is to do.

Can you post a link to the vendor you use? Everyone I see on eBay looks to be fake Chinese copies.

I've used a few but the most frequent, by far, is baronvlad

http://www.ebay.ca/usr/baronvlad?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2754

He's US based and has been very reliable. After shipping, ships vary from $45 to $50 (Canadian) apiece, though he'll combine shipping if you get a couple more at a time.

If you want to filter out the sketchy Hong Kong/China ones, just limit your search to North America, although you can miss out on some UK vendors that way, and I've bought from some of them in the past. Alternatively, if you're looking for a specific ship, just type that in the search bar, sort by price + shipping, and scroll past the China ones. Chances are, there won't be THAT many to skip past. Maybe none at all.

Yes, because the pod legs are thin plastic - I spent a lot of time wiggling it loose so that the legs wouldn't break of. 1 leg was highly resistant, but I got the pod off in 1 rip.

The best part is, you can plug the pod back in, and take it out again!

I was actually thinking of putting together a Jaeger (Marquis Raider + Voyager) and a few of the DS9 frankenfleet, but decided against it, as purchasing models outside the subscription didn't fit well into my budget.

Wow! That would require actual tools, and cutting models apart. I'm afraid I'd lack the technical expertise to pull this off. I hope we get a Yeager down the line.

I want to do a couple of conversions but I haven't tried it yet.

I've thought of turning a D'deridex into a Romulan Raptor class cruiser.

Also turn a Nebula class into the "AWACS" USS Phoenix if they don't offer an official one in the collection.

I want to cut short the nacelle pylons of an Enterprise-C to recreate the final Ambassador class "refit".

But because parts are metal and parts are plastic I don't know if my "mods" will work or not though.

^ Really cool ideas. 1 got to be a hobbyist pro to make it work though.

I think I've seen a photo of a Phoenix without extended nacelles.

With the Saratoga, we're getting a modified regular ship soon.

Can decals be modified to turn Fed ships into their mirror counterparts?

Been looking at my two purchases over the past week (technically three, but I'm keeping my second "D" in its box), particularly the "C". I know people have a lot of problems with this model (especially the lack of impulse on the back of the "neck"), but I really like it. It's really a joy just to hold it.

I've left the "E" on its stand a lot more. It loos really nice too, but those long, thin, fragile-looking nacelles conjure up memories of not one but TWO accidents I had with my Equinox. :shifty:

(And I'm now on the hunt for a "B"). ;)

Not so much a lack of Impulse Engines on the back of the neck but on the saucer itself- it is the only primary hull without the ability to move after separation.

Other than that I really like the design- I do not have a Eaglemoss of it yet but it is on my wish list.

I also love the C despite the lack of impulse engines. Once upon a time I was never going to get it, it was one of the points that killed it for me...and then I got taken over by one of the parasites from Conspiracy bit by the collecting bug and I ended up getting it. I haven't regretted it since. It really is a great design.

No NX-Alpha for me today...got home, took a quick look at it, and there's no wonder it had trouble breaching the warp 2 barrier - the rounded connecting piece between the two rear stabilising fins was missing. It wasn't even loose in the box - that would've been different, at least I would've been able to glue it on - it was nowhere to be seen. Had to return it, and as they didn't have any other spare copies, they've ordered two more just to be safe

Here's to hoping that the next ones are correct...

And it isn't like it's an issue affecting all of the models, either - I've seen reviews online where the part missing from mine is there, and in one where the person had to glue it on because it was loose (I couldn't even do that...:().

Glad they replace it right away! I bought 2 of them - no parts loose, fortunately.

So you'll have an NX-Alpha and an NX-Beta.

Forbidden Planet are good like that, although this is actually the first time they've had to do anything like this for me. It will definitely teach me to check the ships before I leave the store in future!

No NX-Beta for me - I took it back and they refunded my card, and then ordered two extra from their supplier in case there was anything wrong with one of them.

Anybody charged for ships this month? It seems like they've skipped this month after I only received one ship (Scout ship #80) last month.

I haven't yet but I'm normally charged around the 11th so not expecting it yet today. I did notice the pending charge for the Yorktown I had on my card dropped off, so I called them. Another out of stock issue apparently.

I was feeling a bit blue about the events of the past week, so, since I got paid yesterday, I decided to cheer myself by heading over to the local collectible store and getting a ship.

While I was initially deciding between the Romulan shuttle and the Warp Delta, I ultimately eschewed both and went with the winged Bajoran transport. Not a bad looking ship, and I think it's about the right scale with the Bajoran raider from the Micro Machine set, so you could have little chase scene.

(Also, I don't care what the magazine says. That ship is NOT big enough to carry 200 people!)

Let's see. My last shipment was shipped on the 11th of October. 4 weeks after that was November 8. Nope. 5 weeks is tomorrow. As of this morning, I have not been charged.

The lollies, they gag.
