What makes you think he wasn't? It's been thirty years since those events happened, there's plenty of time for him to have done some, well, time. Manslaughter only has a max sentence of about 12 years, and second degree murder is something like 30. First degree (depending on location) can be life with parole in 25 years. So all three are viable given the time frame. That's assuming he was found guilty, too. For all we know, the crime scene was never even discovered.
