What are your thoughts about seeing the prime universe again?

An idle thought that comes to mind every time I peek at this thread - I wonder if TPTB consider the Mirror Verse, the Parallel's universes, etc to be part of the 'Prime' universe?

I mean, in-universe the 'Mirror' reality is a seperate 'timeline' of its own. But from a production standpoint, 'Prime' was essentially shorthand for 'Pre-reboot continuity.'

Shock twist: The entire new series is actually an interquel between 'In the Mirror Darkly' and 'Mirror, Mirror.'

What are my thoughts about seeing the prime universe again?

I'll let you know if and when I actually see it ;)

Whilst I am glad that this show is going to be set in the Prime Timeline/Universe it could be fun if instead of doing a mirror universe crossover episode that they do a Kelvin Universe crossover episode.

Whilst Discovery is set ten years before TOS, it is only set three years before the events in 'Star Trek' (2009)!

I don't care which universe it takes place in as long as the story is interesting.

Although I'm pretty sure it's only in the Prime universe due to something between the movie and TV divisions on the rights to the franchise.

Well they could have Robert Pike be captain of the Enterprise and take care of a few old continuity items at once.

I'm quite certain that if Fuller wanted to put it in neither Prime or Kelvin, he could have. He probably insisted that it be in Prime (or pre-ST09, so it's not really an issue either way) because he loves that universe.

The Kelvin Universe hasn't done a TNG and won over the majority of the fanbase. In 2009 it might have been possible but too much time passed between sequels for a rabid fanbase to grow and then Into Darkness happened which shot the KelvinVerse in the foot in my opinion. If Beyond had come before ID I think the positive feeling towards that KelvinVerse would have continued. The poor reaction to a perceived "remake" of TWOK only 2 movies into a new version of the franchise drove away a lot of hardcore fans in my opinion. The general audience clearly didn't turn hardcore in their droves which is reflected in the box office performance of Beyond. So although the KelvinVerse has its fans and its own popularity it isn't popular enough to dump the PrimeVerse just yet.

IN MY OPINION DISCLAIMER
i am not sure thst anything benefited from abadoning the prime universe: the actors make the new trek movies not really the plot : to be honest there is no reason the movies wouldnt work in the prime universe its the characters people love

I think this picture is innacurate; Enterprise (for the sake of argument) exists in a badly recreated simulation during TNG, (an apologetic argument that is the closest to ever give credence to enterprise being canon), while the JJ-verse is a totally seperate timeline, or (as an apologetic argument) in an extrapolation of what riker created in that silly holodeck simulation (that didn't happen).

I'm looking forward to seeing yet another new version of Star Trek, where yet again some things will be remarkably similar to previous continuities but others will be so completely different - rather like the nuTrek movies - that the various versions can be shoehorned together only by people obsessively determined to insist that they are the same in the face of contradictory evidence.

Despite the news about Fuller leaving, I'm still interested in seeing this. What are the food slots really putting out? What are the rec decks really like?

So perhaps the question now should be "what are your thoughts if we see the prime universe again (or any universe, for that matter)?" ;)
