If Picard dies in Best of Both Worlds

At the end of DS9 Worf was supposed to be ambassador to chronos. I guess he must have gotten bored and decided to go back to his former function.
I thought maybe he got fired spouting all that federation rhetoric on the homeworld. And somehow he became a lightweight and got drunk on Romulan ale despite the constant drinking he and Martok must've done during his time as ambassador.

Martok wanted to go targ hunting with him. I wonder how that went down.

Riker becomes captain. Shelby comes on board as his first officer. In "Family," Riker goes back to Alaska where his bastard father gives him the perspective to get back out there after killing his former captain and mentor. Worf leaves the Enterprise to command a bird-of-prey in the first ever command exchange with the Klingons. He guest stars mid-season aiding his former crew with a mission into Romulan territory to recover Ambassador Spock.

Shelby and Riker continue to lock horns throughout the season, when she's not kicking puppies and mispronouncing Data's name. The season ends with her redemptive death and Riker's offer of first officer to Worf, whose final mission in the season finale restored his honor with the Klingons as well.

Jellico was brought in to replace Riker while he's on mission in Cardassia. Worf admires Jellico's guile and cunning, and is his strongest proponent, to the annoyance of the rest of the crew. All goes well until Jellico's plan fails when the Enterprise's shuttle is detected in the nebula by the Cardassians. Only as things are falling apart does Worf appreciate the shortcomings of his rigid, arrogant captain. "The fault lay not in our stars..." Worf thought, remembering Dr. Crusher's intent of putting on a production of Julius Caesar after the mission. Relieving Jellico, Worf manages to save the Enterprise and force the Cardassians to a stalemate (some days you and the bear just stare at each other and go along your ways), while Black Ops Data breaks out Riker.

Riker saw five lights, and it's during his recuperation he and Troi decide to reignite things.

In "Lessons" Riker almost loses Troi and can't handle it. She proposes.

"Second Chances" is even more difficult as both Lt. and Captain William Rikers are madly in love with Troi and Lt. Riker's even more adamant to get her given his doppelgänger's already got the career he always wanted. In the end, he keeps his name and goes out into the world to find new purpose. (In NEM, he returns aboard the Tholian supervessel Rapier to reek vengeance on his twin and...nope, still can't joke about it...too soon.)

"All Good Things..." is almost The Last Temptation of Riker. He has to betray Starfleet and everything he holds dear to save her life if they are to rule the galaxy together and gain unlimited pow- oh, never mind. Anakin was a brat and Kirk already let Edith go in 1967. The series ends with Riker and Troi's wedding.

Had Picard died in BOBW, Riker would've taken over, BUT season 5-6 cliffhanger would've been soap operaish turn of events when Picard's long lost twin brother returns as the 1st officer and tries to push Riker to make wrong decisions so he can be the captain. Also, it must be pointed out that it would naturally be Picard's EVIL twin. With a beard. Maybe some hair too?

... it would have been too much like how people hate (Kelvin) Kirk copying Pike's "punch it".

First I've heard about people "hating" this? Those who do apparently don't get the symbolism. It was clearly an homage by Kirk to his late mentor and father figure, said as they are about to bring Pike's murderer to justice.
