Croeso, retroenzo! =) Welcome to Trek and craziness (not necessarily in that order)
I love that anecdote about your granny but it makes me feel a bit old, having witnessed TOS first airing. (Lol, naah, no need to feel guilty! I am a strict believer in the principle that in order to make fun about others one must first be able to make fun of oneself. And if one really is as old as one feels I am constantly oscillating between 17 and 170 anyway)
If you have any problems or questions about the board, please don't hesitate to ask. We'll all be glad to be of assistance.
And make sure to visit the Lounges (there is one for every rank) - they are a great place to make friends. There are quite a few posters here who first met in a Lounge and became real life friends, across borders, continents and seas. There are even a few marriages that started here =)
Are you serious about the Welsh? I learned quite a bit during a 2 week vacation in Cardiff, years ago, just by listening to the people around me. It seems that Welsh is much in use there.
(And Cardiff has the best fish& chips I ever tried. Plus one of these lovely old-fashioned sweets shops where you get all the tratitional goodies like humbugs, hand-made toffees and lemon drops)
Sounds like you are rather busy in the Trek community. Over here in Bavaria there's not much of that sort but we have other attractions. Tonight, for example, we have a white dinner in the park. Complete with childrens ballet, live music and baroque-style fireworks =) LOL the frogs in the pond will be surprised how many humans there suddenly are.
Ah yes, Welsh, the language with no vowels.![]()
Music is indeed the best language to connect with people
Welsh has quite a lot of vowels. And, alas, some very tricky consonants (I'm still somewhat at war with the double-L).
Are there no evening classes you could take, retroenzo? Occasionally, employers even take over part of the costs.
I have a CD for learning Welsh on my own . It covers the basics, runs on PC and Mac and uses native speakers in the examples (both the southern and northern Welsh dialects). Still, I learned more from using public transport in Cardiff and keeping my ears and eyes open. It also helped that I play flute/recorder/tin whistle and joined a few open stage nights in the local pubs =) Music is indeed the best language to connect with people

Mr. Laser Beam, what is CET3K? I googled it but found non explanation. Trek or Doctor Who, I suppose?
No kidding. I'm a motorsports fan so I think they've also got loads of k's and n's to share too: Raikkonen, Hakkonen, Kankunnen, Vatanen, Makkinen, Kovaleinen....If the Welsh are missing vowels, just ask the Finnish if you can borrow some. Lots of double vowels, they can spare a few.
