It's funny because Robby the robot, (the one on the left
) has actually appeared in other programs besides LIS and Forbidden Planet. He was also on an episode of Columbo, I think and a few others.Robot on the other hand hadn't appeared in much, but did cameo on The Simpsons a couple of times and they did a TV commercial with him..

Maybe part of the reason for the success was that he was treated as a credited star or he's more iconic for being first. Maybe MGM just made him easier to loan out.

No, in LIS. The big dome in the middle of the control deck was similar to that big globe in FP.
Oh yeah........ I get you now. Yeah on the ship in FP yeah they do look similar too.
And, come to think of it, the suspended animation tubes in LIS were similar to those hyperlight tubes, or whatever they called them, in FP.
Yep. I was going to mention those too, but I felt the need to look up the respective names for them and that intended post just kinda died on the vine!

When quoted that picture looks amusingly as though the robots are sharing a bubble bath -- to my warped mind anyway.

The closest equivalent in Trek was the mechanism positioned between the helmsman (normally Sulu) and the navigator (eventually filled by Chekov). I don't think it was ever identified on screen, but Franz Joseph listed it as an astrogator in the StarFleet Technical Manual.
With the release of "The Motion Picture", that component finally got a transparent hemispheric cover.

Or the tubes in This Island Earth. They were kind of a staple.
True. They show up on many a Pulp magazine cover.
The other staple was women in tight spacesuits...... Check any of the scifi posters from the 50s and 60s.. One of my favourite movies is The Green Slime....... That poster, well it just sucked me in for the movie.
