Anyone can add to this thread. What fond memories do you have of watching the show when it was on TV, and what things do you still remember that stuck with you?

The thing that really sticks out to me on this show was, and still is the sound effects. The most notable sound being that of the Jupiter 2 engines when the ship is taking off or landing. It's just this amazing sound that if you have the right sound setup really gets into you..

Yeah I know how they made the sound but it's still one of those effects that you never forget.

Any others anyone?

As a boy in the '70s, the local UHF station had late afternoon weekdays airing of reruns of Lost In Space(1965-68) followed by Star Trek:TOS. I thoroughly enjoyed both series and have remained a fan to this day. I still like 26 episodes out of a total of 84 episodes of Lost In Space. IMHO, Lost In Space best episodes were the majority of season one and some of season three:

I remember seeing the show after I'd already been a Trek fan for several years, and either it hadn't aged well, or I was too old for it, but either way...egads.

That best episode list is a bit too extensive to be credible. That's more best episodes than I'd give all of TNG! :p

Note there are absolutely no season two episodes :biggrin: and only three episodes from season three. ;)
So, I am honestly listing the episodes of Lost In Space that I consider to be the best of the series IMHO.
I only like 26 episodes out of a total of 84 episodes of Lost In Space. :beer:

I remember seeing an episode when I was home sick from school where Will Robinson was wearing Dr. Smith's head. Freaked me the hell out.
 
Syndicated LiS used to play after school in the sameish time slot as Scooby Doo, Voltron, He-Man, Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, Bugs Bunny and so on. As a kid I loved robots so of course the Robot was a fave, I had a TV crush on Penny Robinson, Dr. Smith was amusing if sometimes (most times?) just stupid, I loved the theme song, and science fictiony stuff happened.

That said, even through the lens of childhood, I can't really stand it as an adult. And I say that as a guy that still watches cartoons being on the early side of middle-age.

You didn't like "Trip through the robot?"

It was their cheap and cheery homage to Fantastic Voyage.
 
I love Lost In Space-- both the original Frontier Family version and, to a somewhat lesser extent, the later campy version. I just wish they had actually been two different shows with different characters.

They used to show it daily on Channel 56 at 5pm and I would watch just about every day (just like I'd watch Trek every day at 7pm). It was one of those scenarios that I always imagined myself a part of. I'd be traveling in my one-man ship, like that cowboy character, and have to make a forced landing-- only, unlike him, I'd stay on and become a part of the family. Whenever I'd sit out in the backyard on Summer nights, I'd imagine that I was sitting outside the Jupiter II, under alien skies, surrounded by all those funky rock formations.
 
I watched "Island In The Sky" the other week and it struck me how dark this episode was in parts. Smith wasn't the campy buffoon we saw in season 2 and 3 but he was a proper villain. That threat of the robot crushing a space helmet with Don's head still inside just gave me the chills.... Moreso that he did a demo with an empty helmet and the effect still looked good, but yeah that whole scene just gave me the chills.
 
The robot is easily the most interesting thing to me about the show. "Danger! Danger!" and the like are pretty iconic, and Dick Tufeld had a magnificent voice.

I also had a crush on Penny when I was young. :lol:

I think it's interesting how both Star Trek and Lost in Space were clearly influenced by Forbidden Planet. It's also interesting how they didn't both take the same elements. ST took the space navy motif, but LiS took the flying saucer and the robot.

That's a very interesting view...... I had not thought of that.

I had a crush on Judy when I was young.
