Oh yes. There are a couple of episodes of Enterprise that had WANT rather than NEED in mind and it was just.... nonsense :(

The good thing is with the way the stories are being told and less episodes per season there'd be no need to dig into the toy box. All the elements they need will be ni the concept, and each episode will tie to that concept instead of shrugging and saying "Right chaps, we've nothing next week. Ideas?"

I think it'd be much easier to avoid those past mistakes by having the series plotted out in advance like most shows these days, instead of winging it.

Completely agreed, I hope this continues into season 2. It should help avoid the Album Tracks that plagued the longer seasons of earlier Trek.

This series is planned like a novel, so the ending is known. Not just setting in place a set of characters and sets, and making random stories to take place with these parts. But the parts planned around this initial story.

    You mean filler, right?

Cf "2. Any such piece that is perceived to be unsuitable for release as a single" [link].

Regarding Romulans, they could conceivably show them to our crew, but not let them know they were Romulans. "Hey, look at these renegade Vulcans" or somesuch, like the V'tosh ka'tur from ENT. But they could be spies deliberately impersonating Vulcans. That might even be a good story. :vulcan:

Yeah, the mediocre tracks that fill up an album but noone ever remembers. Not even bad, just bland. Trek has too many of those, weak ideas that got made to meet a deadline.

    Yes, you are right.

(Took me a minute to understand the meaning there. It's a term, but I wasn't that familiar with it.)

Wondering if the female lead isn't actually a Romulan undercover agent who is posing as a Vulcan Lt Cmdr? No evidence to back that up, but it would be an interesting idea!

I'm disappointed. The show is only on CBS's streaming site. We only get 10 - 13 episodes. I Don't care for the ship they've shown us. And now we're getting another prequel. I'll watch the broadcast of the pilot. But don't think I'll pay for this.

Post Nemesis seems too far from us. IMO, after TUC would have been better.

The fans won't stand for it! Just like they didn't stand for the TMP redesign, the TWOK redesign, or the TNG redesign. ;)

Which is why I hated the redesign in Abrams' films...oh wait.

I'll just hit over here then.

Apples and oranges. Those were all "unseen" time frames. Even in TNG's later seasons when they went back to earlier seasons they showed the original Bill Theiss TNG uniforms.

It will be interesting to see how they thread this particular needle.

Well, it isn't about the battle of Anaxar...but I defiantly see why they put the kibosh on it. Regardless of what anyone says...I thought it was a good show though!

They put the kibosh on it because some guy was raising money using the Star Trek name and imagery, paying himself and his friends salaries, and paying all his "work related" expenses with it.

Imagine if you made something, and someone came along and started using it to make their living without asking you.

Sorry but I have to disagree...they didn't care until all this. For that argument to be valid they would have had to never let it start in the first place.

No Klingon contact for 100 years was necessary to this story, Anaxar was contradictory to this...and the last thing anyone wants is to shell out millions on something, and then have the fans say they like the cheap fan produced show better...I know people will disagree, oh well.

"No Klingon contact for 100 years" is contradicted by the pilot episode itself, where Klingons attacked and killed Burnham's parents. Not to mention dozens and dozens of novels published over the past 50 years. And TOS itself, which often vaguely referenced past conflicts with Klingons.

I think some guy ripping off their property to line his own pockets was a little more important to them than the continuity they rewrite every couple of years.

Yeah, it makes sense...I mean after 50 some odd years of not caring and watching the show change responsible parties several times and not a legal pip until now....

No Klingon contact for 100 years with the Federation, not the Vulcans...This is what is contradictory to Anaxar...

Nobody raised $1.4 million and tried to use it to launch a for-profit movie studio before.

It's a few steps up from selling unlicensed Star Trek fanzines.
