TMP Theory on Captain Archer

TOS, TAS,TNG,DS9, VOY, ENT and DCS refer to the shows. TMP, TWOK, TSFS. TVH, TTF,TUC,GEN, FC, INS, NEM, 09, STID and BEY refer to the movies. Memorize them, there might be a quiz.
As seven would say: "That's Irrelevant."

Pay attention.

I don't find that very convincing. TOS is mentioned a few times in TNG, DS9 and Voyager. TNG is mentioned on DS9 and Voyager. And DS9 is mentioned on Voyager.

SO how come that ENT is never ever mentioned even once on any of these shows?

Through ENT's use of setting up stuff that appeared in later episodes, the show created it's own organic links to the older franchise. And, in fact, there are very minimal inter-show references in the franchise. TNG, DS9, and VOY have the most, since they're in the same era. But there not that many more references to TOS stuff there than there are ENT references (albeit ones that ENT created in itself).

Star Trek Beyond also uses ENT as part of its backstory.[/quote]

There are species first seen in TOS, that are continued later. Klingons, Romulans, etc. Given that it is the basis for all of Trek, it's almost impossible to not to reference TOS.

Sorry, I meant as in "discussions about Kirk's Five year mission."

I don't agree. each series, IE TNG, DS9 and Voy has ONE episode entirely devoted to TOS. TNG has relics, DS9 has a time travel_tribble story. VOY has flashbacks (with Tuvok "remembering" the time when he was part of Sulu's crew.)

Thing is, those DS9 and Voyager episodes were only done specifically to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary.

My point being that the link between these series and TOS was strongly and clearly established, while not one word was said about ENT (IE the events taking place during the time period of ENT).

How could those events be mentioned? The show hadn't been created yet. The 22nd Century was almost a blank slate anyway. So anything Enterprise came up with could fit with little difficulty.

It's all fiction. Mostly made up as they went along. There was no master plan. No list to consult. No history to read. That most of it fits without getting out a hammer and chisel is pretty amazing

My point is that to be consistent, there should be an in-universe explanation for why they are never spoken of,. Like maybe Archer did something that cast a pall over his mission back then.
Personally, I think that Archer did something that started the war between the federation and the Romulan empire and that is pretty bad indeed.

For that to happen there needs to be another show set in the 24th Century and for the writers of that show to actually care enough about it to address the issue.
I'll go for an Occam's Razor approach. We are only privy to a fraction of the lives of these people and only a microscopic cross section of the people in the Federation, The chances that we'll drop in on the right people, discussing the right topic at the right time is pretty slim.

Well, Archer IV ("Strange New World" [ENT] and "Yesterday's Enterprise" [TNG]), the smooth and ridge-headed Klingons and the embarrassing story behind it ("Affliction"/"Divergence" [ENT] and "Trials and Tribble-lations" [DS9], the evolution of Klingon culture from the usual depiction to the TOS one ("Judgement" [ENT]), the Xindi and the MACOs (ENT season 3 and Star Trek Beyond), the Borg's interest in Earth ("Regeneration" [ENT] and Star Trek: First Contact and "Q Who" [TNG]), Archer's existence (ENT as a whole and Star Trek Nemesis, possibly Star Trek [2009]), the NX-01's very existence ("These Are the Voyages..." [ENT] and "The Pegasus" [TNG] and Star Trek Into Darkness).

ENT was pretty well integrated into canon, considering it's late arrival. And, as people have pointed out before, we don't see every single minute of the later character's lives, just a selection of it. Also, in most episodes, the characters rarely talk about the past shows, mostly the present problems. So, it's not that big a deal.
