WB's Justice League 2017 movie pre-discussion thread

As I recall, both The Voyage Home and The Final Frontier incorporated pop songs into the films and on the soundtrack albums. TVH had "Market Street" by The Yellowjackets (as well as "I Hate You," composed and performed for the film by associate producer Kirk Thatcher, who also played the punk listening to the song), and TFF had "The Moon's a Window to Heaven" by Hiroshima (aka Uhura's fan-dance music). First Contact had Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride" and Roy Orbison's "Ooby Dooby" (which were on the original soundtrack album, but not the later "complete" CD release).

So the trailer was surprisingly interesting. Aquaman seems to be shaping up well. Cyborg looks kind of cool. And I actually almost like this Flash based on this trailer (his appearence in BVS just completely turned me off for some reason). The tone is also looking better than I'd hoped. They may win me back over to this one after all.

The thing about Flash's BvS appearance is that I didn't really process what I was seeing because I didn't get that they added an electrical visual effect to his power.

Pardon my ignorance of Aquaman and his folk, but do the Atlanteans live in an air-filled environment, or is their habitat filled with seawater all the time? An air-filled habitat would more easily facilitate verbal speech, fire, some forms of energy, etc.
I know they are perfectly adapted to surviving under water, but I am not sure if they need to be under water to survive.

I think they're sort of like Odo, they have to return to the water maybe every several hours to keep from drying out.

An analysis of what we know about Justice League. The insights into the Flash are especially interesting:

Remember "Unite The Seven"? Should we assume that one of the Green Lanterns will be the 7th member?

The design is a bit too "busy" for my tastes, but its not terrible. I'll be interested to see him, and I hope the use the character well.

I like the design. Is this the first we've heard about DCEU Deathstroke? I don't remember seeing him mentioned anywhere before.

He was rumored for an appearance ever since Marc Guggenheim suggested that he was not gonna show up in the Arrow-verse shows due to DC/WB having other plans for him. First, he was rumored to make a surprise appearance in "Suicide Squad", when that didn't happen he was immediately rumored for the sequel.

According to TheWrap, Deathstroke will be the main villain in Affleck's "Batman" solo movie.

Is that from Justice League?

Seems awfully soon for something from the Batman solo, there's at least two other DCEU films scheduled before it that haven't start shooting yet...

Hmm, I do like Deathstroke, but I would really prefer one of the more traditional member of The Bat's rogues gallery for his solo. If I had to pick I would go with someone who hasn't been in a movie yet, Black Mask or Clayface would be my top picks.

Honestly, I hope the rumor is true just so we don't get another Batman movie with Joker as the main villain. I'd have preferred to see them use another Bat villain, like actually trying to do justice to Mister Freeze, Penguin or Poison Ivy, or (like JD said) use someone like Clayface or Black mask. But, Deathstroke can be cool, and he's something different, at least.

I would like to see the Riddler done well -- i.e. not as a maniacal Joker knockoff like Jim Carrey or a psychotic Two-Face knockoff like the Gotham version, but as a suave, calculating criminal mastermind who confounds Batman with his intricate schemes and deceptions.

But then, Deathstroke's kind of a mastermind too, isn't he? I gather the comics in recent years have tended to portray him as an evil counterpart to Batman, a master of planning and preparation and hypercompetence as well as endless physical skill. Maybe that's why they chose him for the Batman movie, so that the hero and villain would be evenly matched.
