WB's Justice League 2017 movie pre-discussion thread

Is it really apt to compare other CBM with humor to Marvel? X-Men Apocalypse had a lot of humor and people called it a knock-off MCU film. TASM 2 had zingers, one-liners, and comedic scenes (just like Age of Ultron) and yet no one referenced TASM 2 humor as a benefit towards the films. Now the DC films are adding more jokes to their movies and the comparison to Marvel arises again. Even though when other studios do it (Sony and Fox) it's never been a positive.
Yes it is apt to compare them. This isn't apples and oranges here. These are the two biggest comic book cinema universes. Sony and Fox are becoming less and less relevant, with the exception of Deadpool. Look at the X-Men movies pre-Marvel cinematic universe; the humor is not the same. Marvel has been very successful at crafting its formula, and other studios are naturally going to mimic what works.

" Arthur Curry. I hear you can talk to fish." :guffaw:

I love that they established that Aquaman is a badass, then make the obvious joke. No one will be making fun of this Aquaman.

Good poster. Colors are nice. Is that the tiniest hint of an upturned corner on Superman's mouth? And I love it that Wonder Woman is front and center, though I wish she weren't the only woman on the team.

This sizzle reel is my longest look yet at Affleck's Bruce, since I haven't seen BvS yet. He definitely seems to be in a lighter place than what I've glimpsed. I like Batman's line, "I'm real when it's useful."

I like Ezra Miller as Barry, and the speed-lightning effect they're using is interestingly distinct from the TV show's version. I think the Flash costume is kind of ugly, though.

Very interesting trailer. I have a feeling the great, serious tone of MoS and BVS will be carried over to the JL. The Flash looks like a believable, appealing costume design (unlike the cheap TV versions), and Cyborg's design is not as streamlined as one would imagine, but from what little is visible, it works.

Interesting that there isn't a hint, shade or whisper of Superman in the trailer. I would write it off as a token effort against spoilers if they hadn't released the poster at the same time.

That is surprisingly good footage. It makes me think that Snyder has been reeled in a lot (he'd never allow that much color and that little amount of grim/angst if he had full control ). I'm actually getting hopeful.

Color? Humor? Smiles? What is this madness?

It looks pretty great so far. I'm loving the Flash, though I think there's too much black in his costume. Dude should be all reds and golds. That's a minor complaint, though.

Can't wait to see more!

Actual color!

Okay. I like that.

Weird isn't it? It seems like someone, possibly an academy award winner in a producer role, got hands on with some of the scenes

;)

Affleck- I'm watching you Synder.....

Nice Gandalf entrance

I think this is supposed to be his first home made costume, so maybe the Wayne upgrade will be all red.

I'm looking forward to this, but wish Marvel hadn't beat them to the punch essentially with a very similar scene (Ironman recruiting Spider-Man ).

Actually I think that's why we are getting such a similar scene in Justice League.

Looks good. I enjoyed BvS for all its faults, but would agree that it was too dour and grim. It really does seem that they've responded to the criticism and lightened the tone and the palette.

The scene of Batman recruiting Flash is very reminiscent of the Stark/Parker scene in Civil War, as has been observed, while I loved the 'talk to fish' joke. It's hard not to compare it to Marvel's movies but though I'm a big fan of the MCU, I hope they'll be able to lighten up from MOS & BvS while still finding their own distinctive voice.

I can't help notice that at least in terms of personality, the Flash seems more like Wally West than Barry Allen. Well, if I can't get my favorite Flash on screen, at least I'll get him in all but name. :)

I think the costume actually works. The lines are nice; the placement of the lightning bolt looks fresh. The sculptural design works because the parts that are red are the areas that would naturally catch the most light anyway. (I think some of the "black" is actually dark red.)

Just like Beyond including a rock song makes it a total GotG clone.
