2016 MLB Regular Season - It's an Even Year...

Sale is an asshole but as long he's an All_Star, teams will learn to cope. Also, being from Oakland, I love the A's Green and Gold uniforms from the 70's and through the years.

I was at the Hall of Fame induction of Mike Piazza and some other guy.

Chapman to the Cubs

A couple stories have Gleybar Torres going to the Yanks. As packed as the Cubs are with shortstops, and as much as I love Schwarber, I'm surprised they didn't send Schwarbs instead.

Allegedly the Yanks want to keep Miller now that they've won a couple games.

I guess we'll have to see how the trade plays out. The Cubs #1 prospect for a rental is a bit high.

Want to give some love to Ken Griffey JR. He was one of the reasons I watched the HR Derby back in the day. Love the hat backwards look.

He was also an incredible baseball player.

Was always a big fan of "The Kid" having grown up in Washington state in the '90s and being a somewhat avid Mariners fan (still remember being so disappointed in '95 when they didn't go all the way). I even had a poster of him in my room. I remember seeing him in a few games at the Kingdome too. So glad his contributions were recognized and he made it to the Hall of Fame and chose to honor is Mariners roots.

I'd be fine if the deal were contingent upon Chapman signing an extension. Torres++ feels like way, way too much even if does mean that Richard gets torpedoed into the sun.

Chapman was already talking about how he doesn't want to leave NY and can re-sign with them in the offseason.

He could change his mind once he's experienced Wrigley as a Cub, you never know.

Gleyber Torres, Billy McKinney, Rashad Crawford and relief pitcher Adam Warren (back to the Yanks) for Chapman with NO extension agreement in place.

WAY too much in Torres AND McKinney for a rental. Should've just given them Schwarber if that's all they wanted.

This feels like a panic move by Theo and Hoyer. You could land Abad AND Dolittle for less than you're giving up for Chapman.

Trading away a good chunk of the farm for two months of Chapman, however good he is, is a Jim Hendry move. I wonder if Hal Steinbrenner roofied the Cubs' front office or something. Put another way, Vogelbach, Castro, Torres and McKinney net the Cubs ... Mike Montgomery and two months of Chapman. Jesus Christ.

A couple of pictures from the Induction of Mike Piazza at the Hall of Fame. Sorry for the quality, didn't have a good location to get pictures from.

I'm glad Junior made it in. :)

The more I think about it, the more I really, really hate that Chapman trade for the Cubs. I get that Flags Fly Forever and all that, but they seriously traded a ton of their top prospects for a rental. What bothers me the most is that after 2017, the rotation is going to be a huge question mark: Lackey will almost certainly retire, Arrieta is looking for 7 / 250 money and based on some of his comments he doesn't have the best relationship with Epstein and Hoyer, Lester will be 34 and have a ton of mileage on him, and I can't see the team hanging onto Hammel. Given that the free agent market for pitching is going to be utter dogshit for the next two years, that's when you start dumping your prospects because the only decent starters will be available via trade.

To be fair, Warren isn't a prospect and been OK as a reliever. McKinney has had injury issues and hasn't lived up to potential, plus he's an OF and the Cubs still have Almora and that Cuban player they signed last year. I've never heard of Crawford, but another OF. That leaves Torres as the only serious prospect dealt in this trade.

I was more concerned about them letting Blackburn go in the Montgomery trade. They really don't have too many good pitching prospects.

Could somebody explain why today's Mets/Rockies game was a day game?

I mean, last night, the Rockies played a NIGHT game in Baltimore. So they probably got back to their hotel at like 2 AM. (Same goes for the Mets, but at least they were already at home and didn't have to travel.) And the whole rest of the series this weekend is also Mets/Rockies, so neither of those teams has to travel any time soon. Given this, why was today a day game, except to stick it to the Rockies?

I want to know why Familia didn't get the day off like he was supposed to. Have someone else pitch the 7th inning and have Reed close. Familia has pitched a lot, especially recently. I'm sorry, I'm tired of the "closer" must close every game that a closer can close. Over that 50 game close streak, especially lately, he was barely getting the save. He should have been shut down today but no, he costs us the game in a game he shouldn't have pitched in.
