No sarcasm just what I feel. That design does not deserve its own show. The neck looks like its made from lego.
Not my favorite design, but it definitely looks like the Phase II as people have shown, so I can live with it.
I think the ship is badly designed too, and you can watch or not watch whatever you want, but to me saying you won't watch it because you don't like the look of the ship is like refusing to watch Hannibal because you don't like his cooking utensils. Both are probably on screen just as much, and the design of them probably has as much impact on the writing/acting/directing/editing/music quality.
Sorry, but I can only assume this is sarcasm. Or are you honestly saying the starship in a Star Trek series won't actually feature that much on screen. You know like all the other ships haven't.
Looks like this time the naming convention goes the other way round... From Real Life to fiction, instead of going from Fiction to Real Life, though the Enterprise shuttle never went into space...
You know, there's always the possibility that the show is about the search for a missing Discovery, not the Discovery and her crew herself. Just throwing that idea out there.
Because the shuttle bay looked like it was bolted on as an after thought. It doesn't look like a part of an original design.
The ship 'Discovery' could very well be the discovery that propels the story... so I agree, not necessarily pre-TOS.
I never said I won't watch. But I will not subscribe if they insult the fans with something that hideous. I know its based on an old design for phase II but it was an ugly ship and it is now. What I'm surprised at is that I have seen a few really good modern takes on that shape of secondary hull. This looks worse than the original 70s concept art. Trekyards did an episode on it so I am familiar with it. I feel like CBS is gonna say Aprils fool and I wake up from a nightmare.
There's also an NX class with the name Discovery, so I don't know, hopefully this is for the public, and we'll get a full montage of the shuttle, NX class etc It's the only other name that's sort of progressed along with Enterprise etc through Star Trek.
I tend to like what we saw. But it isn't enough to make any judgements. Though the thought of more Klingons doesn't exactly have me excited.
No sarcasm. Count the screen time of the other ships. Beyond some recycled shots at commercial breaks you don't really see the ships / stations all that much in the shows. For the most part the drama is what happens inside the ships, not watching the ships. I picked Hannibal because it's also a Fuller show, and I bet you if you count the screen time of his cooking utensils (which are focused on heavily) they'd be pretty close to equaling the screen time of the Enterpise in TOS. I could have used any number of examples. So I see no difference in refusing to watch one show over the aesthetic qualities of a prop than another.
First, I'm not a fan of the design at this point. But a lot can change between now and when the design is shown in the first episode. Second, I would be OK if it took place between ENT and TOS. I don't believe the writers would have to dance around canon to much. There are plenty of adventures to be had, it's a big galaxy after all.
