Interesting, though I'll reserve final judgement until I see the pilot (and find out *for sure* details like when this is set etc)

I'm gonna throw my hat in the ring and say this is set post-TNG/DS9/VOY... The split emblem hints strongly at some sort've rift or civil war in the Federation (strongly drawing from today's headlines and sociopolitical climate - as Trek has always done). And the "rustic" (for lack of a better word) look of the ship, combined with the music, has me leaning strongly towards some sort've joint Federation-Klingon project...

The teaser also begs the question (aside from the name of the ship) thematically in the show - just WHAT is waiting to be discovered...??

Remember there is NO footage, they haven't shot any footage of any kind yet. This is just a quick promo they did for the SDCC

It's a study model, same as the first image released of the NX-01 Enterprise in 1999.

^This. I've seen people saying it was Test Footage, but I have not seen an official source on that.

Whether it's test, demo, in-progress, promotional, etc. footage - it was still greenlit for public release, which means that it is representative of the development of the show and worthy of analysis...

I hope they just never even mention what universe it's in. That is totally doable. There is no need to endlessly reference past events. Make everybody happy. I'm not a big fan of the films, but I don't really care what universe it's in. All we need is a good cast and good writers. Let it be it's own thing, that is what I am hoping for.

That is a hideous design for a hero ship. Its not original. Didnt the Borg leave it a wreck at wolf359. What are they thinking. I won't be subscribing to look at that monstrosity .

Something to consider. There's a history of ships with long lasting names in Trek, lots of ships have numbers after their registry number. What if this is just a glimpse of the first ship with the Discovery name on it? Later we'll see the A, the B, etc till we get the real one. (Maybe.)

If this is true, then I'm not a fan yet. That ship is ugly. Compared to the flowy designs we've seen with Kelvin Trek, it seems like we're going back to the 90s.

I don't know...you can't get much uglier than the kit bashed Kelvin! :wtf:
