    About the Franklin:

I was told that even though the ship has an NX registry prefix, it is not a class ship. So what does the NX mean, then?

I mean, obviously it can't be the class name, since the Franklin is clearly not of the NX class as the NX-01 Enterprise is (even though they kind of look alike).

Is the Franklin one of many prototypes (of whatever this class is) that were constructed, but the class was named after one of the other prototypes? Or is it the ONLY ship of its class, thus making a class name superfluous? Those are the only other explanation I can think of right now.

It can now be assumed that the NCC designation might have come in later. This is not a prototype ship, nor the first of its class - maybe it just has an NX registry to make the link to NX-01 clearer. The Starship Class is given in the film, hence why I'm confident in saying it's not a Franklin-Class ship.

I think the big issue that I have not seen anyone nswer - in dialogue is the Frankilin called the FIRST Warp 4 ship? Or was that just in that magazine. Obviously it can be easily explained that the warp scale has been recalibrated. But is that even nessasary if it's not in the movie?

It's in dialogue. It really didn't have to be, but it is.

One of them. It's suggested that, in the 2160's, Starfleet started making many more vessels.

Now that you have seen the movie can you predict the rotten tomatoes score?

I predict that RT and Metacritic scores will be on par with Star Trek XI - 95% on RT, 80-90 on Metacritic.

My personal belief is that it's the strongest of the three films both as a standalone story and as a "Star Trek" film. I'm confident that the early reviews will be glowing for the film - so I'm predicting that an incredibly strong opening weekend (helped by small scale or mediocre competition like Ghostbusters: Axanar), the Rihanna partnership, and a HUGE push into China and the other East Asian markets (it's co-produced by Alibaba and Huahua Media), will put Star Trek Beyond into the region of US$400-$500m at the international box office. In comparison, Star Trek XI took some US$385m.

    AndyPardy,

If the Franklin's dedication plaque states the ship is a Starship Class vessel, then the Franklin could stil be the first ship of the Franklin-class and be a member of the Starship Class. Why do I say this? The original Enterprise and the Kelvin Timeline Enterprise are both identified as being of the Starship Class on their dedication plaques, as well as being identified as being of the Constitution-class (the former by dialog, the latter by a graphic seen in ST: ID).

Maybe it's not a warp recalibration. The NX Enterprise was technically a prototype. Perhaps they found issues with the engines during its nine years out that caused Starfleet to decide that Warp 4 engines were more stable for mass production.

Hopefully, it'll be a crowd pleaser, similar to ST09.

    I'm hoping for $550m+.

How many time's does the Captain's Oath get recited during the movie?

Aaaaah! I think I hate this thread! My sincere advice:

Please everyone. Stop spoilerizing yourselves! This was my first Trek movie - in thirteen - in which I had hardly any idea what would happen. It was a wonderful experience! ;)

I would love to think that other fans could have the same rich experience. (There were times in the distant past when I was glad I "knew everything" in advance, including TMP - I read the novelization the weekend before seeing it - and ST V, but other films would have been enhanced if I hadn't spoiled myself, such as ST III, ST VI and "First Contact").

Australia got ST III six months after the USA premiere. Yes, I read the imported novelization about four months before seeing the movie, but the night before the huge gala ST III premiere, which I'd helped Paramount to organize, a friend was given a bootleg of ST III on VHS by her local video shop, and I raced over to watch that evening. It was truly crap quality, so I didn't even have the fun of seeing new visuals on the big night. Six months wait and I wrecked everything the night before because of my impatience.

Guys, please, please do yourselves a favour and stop posting in this thread for a few weeks.

There are so many suprises in this wonderful film put in there for fans like us to spot at the cinema. Pegg, Jung, and Lin have obviously put loads of thought into getting all the fannish details right. As I've said in other threads, they've absolutely got the difficult balance just right between force 10 action film and touching 50th anniversary tribute to a beloved franchise. It's the best Trek film in twenty years or more. You'll enjoy it so, so much more if you can hang on for another ten days or so.

Personally, I'm pro-spoilers and always will be. Were I to find the entire script right now, I would read it. Spoilers don't ruin a movie, if that were the case we could never re-watch anything.

Regardless, nothing significant has been given away in this thread except for the Enterprise is destroyed, which was revealed in the trailers anyway, and Sulu's gay, which is a major news item everywhere at the moment. The majority of this thread is just details about the Franklin, status of characters like Spock Prime and Carol Marcus and other piddling little details. I see nothing important spoiled, there's still plenty I don't know about this movie. In other words, no need to get worked up about people knowing the Franklin is topped at Warp 4 a few weeks early.

I was spoiled on the big reveals on V'ger (my choice), Valeris (accidentally reading a caption) and Vulcan (a vindictive ratbag deliberately sent me a private Facebook message when he heard I was going to the movie the next day, and that was how he chose to express his jealousy; he apologized a few weeks later and then I blocked him).

Knowing and not knowing definitely affects the viewing experience, and accidentally encountering spoilers can't be erased once you know. Bad Robot successfuly kept so much of this new movie under wraps for so long, it's a shame to see it revealed one spoiler at a time.

Rewatching is a totally different experience. I've seen TMP about 100 times and notice new things every time.

Still, there's nothing of significance revealed in this thread. What's the harm in asking what class the Franklin is and getting an answer? This thread is pretty much double spoiler-warned with a warning in the title, and the posts themselves spoiler coded, so anyone who doesn't want spoilers won't get them at all, unless they actively try to.

I remember when I was nine years old and got the junior novelization to Generations a week before the movie came out. I immediately read the last chapter and knew the movie's ending right there and then. Seeing it in theatres is still one of my fondest memories of the theatres.

I think you do have to acknowledge that everyone react differently to spoilers, whatever level we think the spoiler is, ie, minor or big.

Something you or I might consider small, could make someone else not go to see the movie at all by breaking their heart.

In terms of some of the revelations so far, correct, I'm happy to know the Franklin is an earlier Federation ship.

I couldn't care less if she was the first ship with cruise control or flushing toilets. I kid, I kid!

I haven't revealed anything of any actual significance (or even peripheral significance for that matter) - and I won't.

    Seatbelts!
