To add to the onslaught of questions you're being asked, how is Uhura in this film?

To quote a post I saw on /r/startrek, I feel like "she went from a classy, dignified professional to a sassy don't-need-no-whatever attitude machine who has no issues telling her commanding officer to basically shut up so she can continue fighting with her also-senior officer boyfriend."

I've always much preferred Nichelle Nichols's Uhura and I wish she had a bigger role back in that original cast. Is there any change or improvements to Uhura in Beyond?

She's tough, more in line with XI than XII.
Spock and Uhura are separated from each other for much of the film, and has a lot of screen time with Krall.

Without going into why it's there, is there a satisfactory (that is plausible and acceptable within the storyline) reason for the presence of the Franklin on the very planet our crew is stranded on? Please at least tell me it's not just a pleasant and convenient coincidence that it's there.

my thoughts exactly , I really wished she had stayed because I would have loved to see uhura have a female friend and I would have loved to see another female character doing her own thing.

    Definitely - it's not a coincidence.

The film is dedicated to both Leonard Nimoy and Anton Yelchin.

Prime Spock has also died, and the film explores the impact of this on Spock

Yes, Enterprise is well and truly established and celebrated as Canon.

The USS Franklin has a Starfleet registry NX-364 (or thereabouts) and was launched in the 2160's. I assume "Warp 4" means a recalibration of the warp scale, because it'd otherwise be the biggest plot hole in the film.

Not so much a spoiler question, but is the film appropriate for kids? I've bought a ticket for my 6 year old, who loves all the Star Wars and Harry Potter films (doesn't find them scary). Would you say STB is similar in "scare level" to those?

Comparable to SW Episode VII. There is violence, but it's fine. Your 6-year-old should enjoy it with parental supervision.

How is the Enterprise's final battle? I have a feeling it will be quite a good sequence. It's not often we see a Starfleet ship completely overwhelmed.

Are the visuals and effects big enough to make an IMAX ticket worth the extra cost?
