IF Politicians could not lie at all for 24 hours..

^ And therein lies the problem. Who gets to decide what truth is?

(And I rarely make statements like that, because in general my worldview is very "black & white" without room for much ambiguity. But it definitely would apply here.)

They'd all go to jail for admitting to corruption and bribery.
*has momentary daydream of seeing Brian Mulroney, Stephen Harper, and many, many others finally where they belong...*

It'll never happen unless the laws are changed here, but it's a lovely thing to contemplate. We all know here in Canada that certain politicians are/were corrupt, but parliamentary privilege has a long reach in protecting them, even after they leave office.

But if politicians couldn't lie, who would the rest of us decide to feel superior to? ;)

(Besides, why stop there? Why not simply require EVERYONE to tell the truth? Why put a condition on politicians which no one else is willing to live with?)
