^ And therein lies the problem. Who gets to decide what truth is?
(And I rarely make statements like that, because in general my worldview is very "black & white" without room for much ambiguity. But it definitely would apply here.)

It'll never happen unless the laws are changed here, but it's a lovely thing to contemplate. We all know here in Canada that certain politicians are/were corrupt, but parliamentary privilege has a long reach in protecting them, even after they leave office.
But if politicians couldn't lie, who would the rest of us decide to feel superior to? 
(Besides, why stop there? Why not simply require EVERYONE to tell the truth? Why put a condition on politicians which no one else is willing to live with?)

My dream would be Tony Blair, John Howard, and Bush in jail for getting us into Iraq based on a whole bunch of lies.
