They have. The writing staff seems to include:

Bryan Fuller (Star Trek: Voyager, Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, Hannibal)
Gretchen Berg (Roswell, Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, Revenge)
Aaron Harberts (Roswell, Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, Revenge)
Nicholas Meyer (The Seven Per-Cent Solution, Time After Time, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)
Joe Menosky (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager, Salem)
Jesse Alexander (Alias, Heroes, Hannibal)
Aron Coleite (Heroes, The River, Hostages)
Kemp Powers (an LA-based playwright)
Kirsten Beyer (a Star Trek novelist)

I'd call that a pretty well balanced mix of Trek and non-Trek credentials. The staff also includes people who have written for film, television, the stage and novels. I like the approach a lot... Hopefully it comes together!

By my count 6 out of 9 of the writers/producers never worked on TV or movie Trek.

Joe also did Deep Space Nine

I don't mind non-Trek people coming on board with the veterans, it's good to have some new voices to help breathe life into the show.

This sub-forum is effectively for the show anyway. It's the only thing happening in Future of Trek.

I like the combination of humour and sci-fi ideas on the show (and it's very good). Also, one of its writers did the TNG Season 8 parody.
It's a great show, it's just not the kind of show I would expect Trek to get it's writers from.
I loved the one where they are going through the miniature societies who are each powering the bigger societies.

it's actually a different show about a couple of Hollywood special effects guys who get recruited by the CIA, who are loosely based on Adam an Jamie. But now that they have MacGyver who knows if the Mythbusters show will see the light of day.

It keeps sounding like a "Greatest Hits" album, but I at least have confidence in Meyer, Menosky and Fuller. Hopefully they are allowed to explore some new ideas.

I'm kinda hoping they bring back certain ST writers (like the Reeves-Stevens) who know the mythology and the lore and will be able to contribute to the new series.

Half the writing staff is Trek alumni, one of them being a book writer in Kirsten Beyer.
