Nathan Fillion would've been perfect casting... 16 years ago.
I'm thinking it's more likely to be in the large void between TUC and TNG as people are speculating. The slightly annoying thing there is we have a pre-set movie era design ethos for ships and sets etc which is all likely to be thrown out and totally redone. That doesn't really bother me a huge amount, but it'd be nice if they kept things in line at least a little. I think a series dealing with the tentative new alliance with the klingons would be really good, leaving room for the action they seem to think is all we want to see, and some nice political/diplomatic storylines to make you think.
Steven Erikson (Malazon Book of the Fallen) wrote an open letter to Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman on "The Future of Star Trek".

Definitely worth a read.
Cool I like seeing novelists on the show.Star Trek: Voyager novelist Kirsten Beyer (Full Circle onwards) is going to be a writer on the new series! Having absorbed The Eternal Tide in a single day, this has made me very happy. Click!

I don't mind a few, I wouldn't mind more novelists. I think Fuller will make the show show different from Berman, who had his hand in everything.Depressing that they just keep digging up past Trek writers.
They have. The writing staff seems to include:I agree with BillJ for once. I wish they would bring in some people that weren't associated with Trek at all.
