DC Comics: Rebirth

On a less ridiculous note, has anybody heard what they are gonna do with Bryan Hitch's JLA?! Several issues have been "initially cancelled", but are they just delayed or won't they be published at all? Would be a shame to keep the Rao arc left unfinished.

So, I should just ignore DC erasing every hero I've every enjoyed from their entire universe? Screw that. I want Oracle and the real Black Canary. I'm not going to shut up about DC until they stop being idiots and I get to read stories with the classic characters, not the abominations that hack writers and terrible editors shove out on a regular basi
You're in for a long wait. Just liike the people expecting the Pre-Crisis continuity to return. And you need to direct your anger directly at DC, not bitch and whine on a TrekBBS. Acting like an adult would help. I doubt DC ( or any organization ran by adults) pays attention to people who use phrases like "stupid", "crappy" and "idiotic" as a way of expressing an opinion.

It would indeed be a shame. The schedule wasn't exactly very regular on that book though.

aving her tweet is like when characters in the 90s shouted "EXTREME" and loved skateboarding and all those other 90s things. Its annoying garbage that dates the character horribly.
Everything that's current will date a character. The stories take place in the "now". The setting, the fashions and the hair styles and the technology will be current to when that story was written, drawn and published. Even the Barbara Gordon stories you enjoy had her using technology and looking like what ever was current then. And even if that Barbara was being used right know she wouldn't be using tech that was an decade or more out of date. Oracle would be tweeting, snapchatting and facebooking just like her new 52 counterpart. So unless they come up with a book called Oracle '99 you're not going to find a version of Barbara using out of date technology and looking like its the 90 or the '00s

The Black Canary who was the daughter of the Earth-1 Black Canary but for a while thought she was the Earth-1 black canary and then it turned out it was the earth-1 version in her daughter's body and who Batman was secretly in love with until he passionately grabbed her and kissed her - I completely agree.

Yeah, but issues #9 to 12 have been shelved at this point. I do believe they will eventually publish these issues, but the question is when?!

But then, I'm also still waiting for the conclusion to Hitch's "Real Heroes".

So? DC doesn't care about anything. They're just publishing books to keep copyrights and to support the movies. I'll call those brain dead sea cucumbers whatever I want. It doesn't matter if I eloquently critique them or if I just tell them to fuck off. It won't change anything either way, but the second option makes me feel better. I'm not talking to DC and trying to write some formal complaint, I'm standing up for the good DC characters on a forum.

Yep, i'd take her. She's a real Black Canary, and she would never have been a singer, either. It was a weird set of circumstances, but decent enough for the era. Heck, outside of the weird backstory, she acted and was basically the same character from a personality standpoint as the Black Canary immediately before the New 52 reboot. By 2011 the writing was more in depth so we got more from characters, but the core was mostly the same, they felt like they could be the same character (minus the weird backstory).

Its all about the core of the character, anyway. I can say that I want the real Superman, the core character, but not mean I want him to juggle planets or be an ass to Jimmy or shoot rainbows out of his fingers. The past has stupid stuff too, and a lot of it really doesn't count toward who the character is. But, i'll take the convoluted pre-Crisis Canary before Dazzler Canary. She was better written, and (again) basically the same character we got until 2011.

There is no dimension where Oracle would have been tweeting or using snapchat, etc if her stories were written without a reboot in 2016, at least not where it would effect the story. In an in universe sense, as a regular person? Maybe. In the off screen time when characters presumably eat, drink, use the restroom, grocery shop, watch tv, etc I could see her doing it. In her superhero adventures (i.e. the stuff we see in comics)? No way.

Also, what are you even talking about with "Oracle '99"? Of course she should have up to date tech. Fancy computers, ipads, etc. There is a difference between having up to date tech, and having a character obsessed with social media.

could we get back to discussing the actual comics and not the opinions of one person? cause i think we have thoroughly beat that horse to death.

i read the new Green Arrow comics and i liked them. it is nice to have GA and BC back together again. GA #1 was a good set up. has me curious where things are going. i didn't read much of the New 52 version.

i'm looking forward to Wonder Woman #1 tomorrow. and Action and Detective Comics. its been ages since i've been this excited by Wednesday comics. especially DC.

Comics have always dated themselves by dealing with issues of the day. It makes for some of the greatest classic comic stories. Power Man and Black Lightning were products of the seventies (CBR recently posted a cover of BL calling Superman a "jive turkey"), and the FF and Iron Man were products of the sixties. These characters evolved to fit the times. I have no problem with that; I like looking at a comic and knowing in exactly what era it was published.

As for Hitch's JLA, I recently read that the finally issues of that series will be published this summer. That said, how are we going to get a second bi-weekly Justice League series when it is so difficult to put out monthly ones. Darkseid war was delayed, Forever Evil was delayed. This bi-weekly concept is by far the stupidest thing I've seen in a long time and I hope it doesn't last very long.

No writer in their right mind would ignore the impact social media has has on society and not use that as story point in a comic, book, film or TV show produced today. Especially when the main character is a tech savvy expert in information technology. it would be like ignoring the telephone in the 20th Century.

A joke on the recent spate of books like Batman '66 and X-Men '92, designed to appeal to fans of a certain iteration of characters.
Where do you get the idea the character is obsessed with social media? The same place where you equate one hangover with being a "party girl'? Social media is part of the modern world it's not some aberration only used by hipsters. It will figure in fiction until something else replaces it.

Someone should tell Marvel that, then. Not a one of their tech characters have so much as sent a single tweet. Literally the only Marvel characters I've seen "tweet" were a few of the teen characters (I think Spider-Girl did it, and maybe one or two others I can't remember). They also haven't done any stories of characters recovering from hangovers after a party, and apparently that's something a lot of people experience. I'm sure both of those things will be in the next issue of some book starring early 20ish heroes. To be fair, I don't read every Marvel book, so maybe some character like Spider-Gwen is doing a lot of tweeting. Still, for something that's apparently so relevant and important, Marvel heroes don't really seem to care.

Is it really inescapable part of the modern world? Is batman doing a lot of tweeting? I didn't see any in Batman: Rebirth or Detective Comics or Batman #1, but if its so relevant I'm sure they'll get to it. They'll probably replace the Batsignal with a special emoji that Gordon will send to a super secret Batman Twitter account. That would be the most relevant thing, after all. Heck, you can order pizza by texting an emoji now, so the Bat-tweet has got to be coming soon. The Flash probably puts out 100 tweets a minute, but he does it so fast the comics can't keep up.

I think on of the Avengers books uses a recap page set up like a social media interface. Ant-Man's current storyline involves apps for hiring super-villians. So, yes, social media is being played up in Marvel's books. There maybe other examples too.

As for Marvel heroes who suffered from the dubious effects of alcohol, I submit Anthony Stark. He has a couple of story arcs about it. Much more than a single scene in a single issue. Hercules is another one who suffered from over imbibing. Partying was pretty much Herc's middle name.

If they can use it for a story, I'm sure it will show up. Just like anything else.

i know the Squirrel Girl recap page is also set up like a social media interface. one of the plot points of Superior Iron Man was an Extremis app. Miles Morales just had his cellphone taken away by his grandmother. it would be silly if characters existing in 2016 didn't use current technology. it would be silly if teenagers in comics acted like 90s kids. you have to stay relevant or you risk looking lame and outdated.

I heard an upcoming storyline on Amazing Spider-Man is going to involve a supervillain using pogs to mind control teenagers.

Of course alcohol has its place. There is a difference between a story about an alcoholic, and focusing a whole issue of a comic on a character retracing their steps after getting drunk partying. Especially when the character has never acted like a partying college student in her entire history. That's a bit different then Hercules being a drinker and party guy for most of his run in Marvel and some story exploring that, or Tony Stark having a well developed story about his alcoholism.

Also, recap pages don't count toward using twitter in comics, and Ant-Man is atrocious (and one of the books in the category of "books I don't read that might have tweeting" that I mentioned earlier).

Since I'm not buying the twice monthly books, since my income didn't magically increase, I'm reading this thread to gauge how the Rebirth is going.

Is the rant about Black Canary done so discussion can move on? Good Grief.

TPBs are half the price of individual issues.

Although TPBS will now come out twice as fast too?

TPBS can be resold on EBAY for close to actual price.

If you do it right, you can actually make money from reading comics, as long as you have no interesting in owning a collection.

Cou-Public Library-ough!

I guess I must more out of touch than I thought, because I have no idea what a pog is. I tried looking it up on Wikipedia, but none of the results sound like the kind of thing you're talking about.
