Well, that was a waste of Ian McShane on such a brief role. I would have given all the moneyz for an Al Swearengen and Mr. Wu reunion that included this line:
Ser Davos was still with Stannis at the encampment during all the starvation, freezing to death, and sabotage by Ramsay's invisible ninja arsonists last season, so you'd think he wouldn't recommend that encampment to Jon quite so highly. Granted, the Northerners and Wildings are more adapted to the cold and can hunt for their food, and the "mountains form a natural defensive perimeter on three sides" thing is okay, so long as your enemy doesn't bottleneck you in there. I have to think with all that bad juju though that Davos would want to stay away, so the reason they went there from an writing standpoint is so Davos can discover Shireen's sacrificial altar and confront or possibly even kill Melisandre later on. He's pretty chill, but that might be the one thing that sends him over the edge.
Great to see The Hound back again. As much as I enjoyed their duo, it would seem a bit obvious for Arya to join up with him again now that she's coming back to Westeros, and their story together sort of reached its conclusion. I guess he'll be off doing his thing against or with the Brotherhood Without Banners (I have a feeling they might not have been responsible for the slaughter as was implied, since they didn't actually show who carried out the attack and that's not supposed to be their style, since they typically defend the little guy). Hopefully he can face off against zombie Mountain at some point next season if either of them survive, again.
Speaking of Arya, even though that old crone immediately made me suspicious when she sidled up next to Arya, that swiftness and brutality of the attack still caught me off guard, and it appeared like it would have been successful in killing her at first, but thankfully Arya is a Klingon and has redundant internal organs to compensate for the ones that were turned into Swiss Cheese. What the hell is she longingly gazing out over the ocean for anyway when an assassin is on her tail? And does this mean the Waif thinks Arya's dead and we're not going to get a fight in the dark with Blind Fury Arya using Sting? Because if not, what the hell was the point of her closing scene last week? I assume due to her injuries she's going to miss the boat and have to stick around in Braavos a little longer and fight the Waif, otherwise it's going to be a waste of two seasons of set up.
For a minute I thought they might be entertaining the idea of killing off Arya and mixing her story with that of her mother's/Lady Stoneheart, since both were seeking revenge and they reintroduced the Brotherhood Without Banners, who resurrected her, and the Riverlands, where she was found.
Great to have Bronn back to lighten the mood and provide some clever quips.
You know Littlefinger is gonna try and pull some treacherous shit or force Sansa to try and marry him.
