Game Of Thrones Season 6 Discussion (Spoilers)

He already returned. Brienne finds him chilling at the inn in 'Feast'.

There was another Baratheon bastard in the books that Martin might be talking about. For the show they combined his character with Gendry.
Mya Stone at the Vale, maybe? Can't remember if she briefly appeared in the show when Kat went to the Eyrie to visit her sister, but she would be another that escaped Joff's purge, being so far away and in a highly protected region.

It was Edric Storm, a high-born bastard... he was the one Davos saved from being flambéed in the books...
Edric was conceived by Robert and Delena on the wedding night of Stannis Baratheon and Selyse Florent (Delena's cousin), in the couple's wedding bed. Stannis saw this as an insult to his honor, so he sent Edric to Storm's End to foster with his other uncle, Renly Baratheon.[6] As Delena was a noblewoman, Edric was acknowledged by his father. He was raised in relative comfort at Storm's End under the guardianship of Cortnay Penrose, Renly's castellan, who is very fond of him.

lol @ Robert.

He was the one who was leeched...

Holy crap, the Hound?! By sheer coincidence, I just watched his last appearance in 4X10 just this morning! I never expected to see him alive and well again 1.5 season later!

Favorite moment of the episode: the giant votes for Jon Snow!

Speaking of giants, in the big 4X9 battle there were only two giants and they killed one. Are we supposed to assume there's only a single giant left alive? Because surely at this point the White Walkers are nearly at the Wall.

Whew, it's a good thing the Waif wasn't able to fully penetrate Arya's plot armor.

Rather odd that we got a cold open here. I believe that's the first time the show's done it outside of a season premier.

Damn, I'm surprised they only had Ian McShane for one episode. Of course, he was fucking great (swears and all), but I expected he would be around for more than an one-off.

Not at all surprised by the return of The Hound. It was hinted in the books that Brienne saw The Hound during her search for Sansa (as oppose to actually fighting him), after he appeared to be mortally wounded at the crossroads inn. Further, there are have been theories that he would be the Faith's champion for Cersei's trial by combat, thus setting up the long-awaited face-off between the Clegane brothers. Seems more than likely at this point.

Perhaps it's because I've recently seen The Wicker Man (inspired to watch after the release of Radiohead's "Burn the Witch" music video), but the large wooden structure in a green, cliff setting made think of the Wicker Man. Purely coincidental, I'm sure, but the image was evocative nonetheless.

Also to no surprise to me, Margaery is indeed merely pretending to be Faithful. We'll see how that works out for her...

What I didn't expect to see Lyanna Mormont. She's not a character that has appeared in the books yet, although she communicates with Stannis via raven. Nice to see a reference to Maege, the She-Bear, who we haven't seen since season 1 and had a slightly larger role in the books.

I'm concerned about Arya, but not too concerned. If the show was going to kill her off, the Waif would've slit her throat and it would be over. Where will she go now and how will she be able to survive those multiple stabs?

Interesting how this is the second episode in a row without Tyrion, which I don't think has ever happened before. Perhaps even the writers are aware they have no idea what to do with now. The sooner Daenerys returns to Meereen, the better.

Also, that's two episodes in a row that Edmure has appeared without saying a word. Easy work for Tobias Menzies, I suppose.

It was nice to see Bronn and his sense of humor back (knights don't get paid. LOL)

The broken man was either the Hound or Theon, with Edmure getting some votes too.

Is Sansa sending a raven to Littlefinger to get his army?

Seems that way. She and Jon have only been able to muster up about 300 Northmen, which isn't nearly enough, even with 2000 wildlings. Meanwhile Baelish is chilling at Moat Cailin with apparently the entire army of the Vale. Like it or not, she needs Baelish's help.

Well, that was a waste of Ian McShane on such a brief role. I would have given all the moneyz for an Al Swearengen and Mr. Wu reunion that included this line:

Ser Davos was still with Stannis at the encampment during all the starvation, freezing to death, and sabotage by Ramsay's invisible ninja arsonists last season, so you'd think he wouldn't recommend that encampment to Jon quite so highly. Granted, the Northerners and Wildings are more adapted to the cold and can hunt for their food, and the "mountains form a natural defensive perimeter on three sides" thing is okay, so long as your enemy doesn't bottleneck you in there. I have to think with all that bad juju though that Davos would want to stay away, so the reason they went there from an writing standpoint is so Davos can discover Shireen's sacrificial altar and confront or possibly even kill Melisandre later on. He's pretty chill, but that might be the one thing that sends him over the edge.

Great to see The Hound back again. As much as I enjoyed their duo, it would seem a bit obvious for Arya to join up with him again now that she's coming back to Westeros, and their story together sort of reached its conclusion. I guess he'll be off doing his thing against or with the Brotherhood Without Banners (I have a feeling they might not have been responsible for the slaughter as was implied, since they didn't actually show who carried out the attack and that's not supposed to be their style, since they typically defend the little guy). Hopefully he can face off against zombie Mountain at some point next season if either of them survive, again.

Speaking of Arya, even though that old crone immediately made me suspicious when she sidled up next to Arya, that swiftness and brutality of the attack still caught me off guard, and it appeared like it would have been successful in killing her at first, but thankfully Arya is a Klingon and has redundant internal organs to compensate for the ones that were turned into Swiss Cheese. What the hell is she longingly gazing out over the ocean for anyway when an assassin is on her tail? And does this mean the Waif thinks Arya's dead and we're not going to get a fight in the dark with Blind Fury Arya using Sting? Because if not, what the hell was the point of her closing scene last week? I assume due to her injuries she's going to miss the boat and have to stick around in Braavos a little longer and fight the Waif, otherwise it's going to be a waste of two seasons of set up.

For a minute I thought they might be entertaining the idea of killing off Arya and mixing her story with that of her mother's/Lady Stoneheart, since both were seeking revenge and they reintroduced the Brotherhood Without Banners, who resurrected her, and the Riverlands, where she was found.

Great to have Bronn back to lighten the mood and provide some clever quips.

You know Littlefinger is gonna try and pull some treacherous shit or force Sansa to try and marry him.

I was expecting the Hound. Not for any in-universe reason, but for the genre reason that we didn't see him actually die.

Arya's story has become my favorite, but I'm getting a little bit annoyed by the pacing. Pick it up peeps!

Multiple intestinal wounds in a medieval society? Yeah, she'll be fine. :borg:
Any Red Women about?
I shall be greatly annoyed if they kill Arya.

Don't forget "took a swim in a port city's river" and I'm sure that blade was perfectly sterile too...
If she pulls through this with anything short of actual magic, I'm calling horseshit.

I was actually waiting for the reveal that she had some mummer's "squib" strapped to her. She has to know everything she does in public is being watched by The Waif. Making a big show about leaving for Westeros and offering up an opportunity like that just seems like some kind of intentional plan. I suppose her big staggering walk down the market street could just be part of the show though.

Oddly enough, my wife is having a Deadwood binge lately, so she got two doses of McShane last night. She was disappointed we didn't get a "cocksucker", but she smiled at the "fuck."

Summaries for the final episodes have been leaked:

No One: “Tyrion finds cause for concern. Cersei prepares for the worst. Sansa takes control. Arya is not alone.”

Battle of the Bastards: “Ramsay surprises his audience. Jon retaliates. Dany is true to her word.”

The Winds of Winter: “A queen comes forth. Euron reveals himself. Brienne meets a friend turned foe. King’s Landing awaits justice. The Night’s Watch gathers."

The description of episode 10 seems very suggestive to the argument I made earlier in this thread concerning Jaimie's and Brienne's roles for the remainder of the season.

It's possible the description could be referring to Jaime, but the "No One" trailer shows that Brienne and Jaime are already facing off each other in the next episode. This leads credence to my belief that Lady Stoneheart will appear at the end, although not in the way I initially theorized.

Further, the men who visit Septon Ray's camp say “Night is dark and full of terrors,” a popular saying among the followers of the Lord of Light and Thoros of Myr is reportedly returning this season. Plus, the Brotherhood Without Banners, who The Hound claimed these men were part of, previously helped the small folk, but that would change if Lady Stoneheart took over (as it happened in the books). And we already know they're attacking the Freys.

Lastly, and this is more tangential, but a friend pointed out that the music played during the final scene with The Hound is similar to the music played when Brienne swore her oath to Catelyn.

I have read all kinds of crazy theories about Arya, the one you mention (Arya faking her death) is probably the most reasonable and likely to be true, Some think this is a fight club scenario with Arya and waif being the same person. Or the showrunners plan to merge Arya and Stoneheart storylines. Or that was Jaqn wearing Arya mask and testing the waif

I've heard those theories as well, but the only one I hope is true is the simplest: She's pretending to be injured all the way through to the final scene. I certainly hope that's the case because it does seem very foolish that she would be standing out in the opening on that bridge and let her guard down when the old lady appeared (it seemed obvious to me based on the shot she was sinister). I like to think Arya is smarter than that, especially considering her final scene in "Blood of My Blood."

It seemed to me the only reason Arya survived that attack is that the Waif intentionally inflicted an injury that would make her suffer a long time, directly ignoring Jaquen's request not to make her suffer. She could have quickly slit her throat if she wanted it to be quick.

I realised Ian McShane must be in a non-recurring role when he was quoted as referring to GoT as "It's only tits and dragons". He even admitted in the following article that he was only in one episode in which he dies at the end.

"It’s like Leonardo DiCaprio. Not the finest performance, just him grunting and being raped by a bear. The Oscars are ridiculous.”
