Game Of Thrones Season 6 Discussion (Spoilers)

I'm up to 3X1 on my re-watch. I'm glad I didn't watch this show live. Season 2 ended with the White Walker invasion finally beginning! Wow, what a cliffhanger! I can't wait to see them attack the Wall in the season premiere! Meanwhile, THREE SEASONS go by before we see them attack anyone, and they're STILL north of the Wall! :brickwall:

Dumb question. In Season 2, Stannis orders Davos to "smuggle" Melisandre into some cave where she gives birth to the shadow demon that kills Renly. What was the point of that? Did the demon have a limited range and it had to be created close enough to Renly's camp to reach it? Or was it just so that no one in Stannis' camp would see it happen?

I think it did have to do with the proximity to Renly's camp. She's really close at that point. In the books, she actually takes out a few enemies by doing this.

Heh, you beat me to it.

Things have gone totally off the rails with how the writers are handling Tyrion now that they no longer have the books as a framework.

Was it just me, or did nothing happen in that episode? Guess we're back to the normal pace of things. :guffaw:

I was thinking of the same thing. Other than the execution at castle black not much happened.

So Jon is the oathbreaker? Wonder what he is going to do now

Well, a girl got her eyes back. And a guy who meticulously sharpened his sword threw it in the dirt. And Bran who was told that he must learn everything isn't told what's in the tower.

"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death."

Jon died, so no oaths were broken, and he's totally within his right to freely leave the Night's Watch now! :p

"Any last words, Ollie? We can talk about it until you're blue in the face, LOL."

I really expected Jon to pardon the traitors and exile them instead, tradition be damned. That was pretty hardcore. I get that they were his brothers and it carries more weight, but he did forgive the Wildlings who murdered Ollie's family, among others. I thought he was possibly going to turn over a new leaf, having seen the nothingness of death and not wishing that on them, but I guess not.

Uggh, another fucking hostage for Ramsay to torment. Enough already. We get it, he's evil incarnate. I'm guessing Rickon will be used as leverage to force Jon Snow into a confrontation with Ramsay's army, and that Jon Snow will find a way to kick his ass and rescue him, but I don't want to see the kid or his protector get tortured or worse in the meantime.

Varys' conversation with the woman funding the Sons of the Harpy was good, as was Tyrion's humorous attempts at establishing a rapport while he was waiting, but everything else on Essos bores me to tears. More Dothraki, Yunkai, and Astapor? Yeah, no thanks, I saw those seasons already.

Jon didn't break his oath. "Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death." He died. His watch is ended.

I really hope the Umbers are pulling some kind of con on Ramsay and that Shaggydog actually died under some other circumstances. House Umber are supposed to be the most fiercely loyal Stark bannermen in the entire North. When Greatjon Umber pledged himself to Robb's cause that galvanized all the lords of the North. I can buy the Karstarks siding with the Boltons (though I don't know why they'd choose Mad Dog Ramsay over the far more stable Roose), but not the Umbers.

The Tower of Joy fight was definitely a highlight. I knew Ser Arthur Dayne was bamf, but he really brought it.

One third into this episode the word "torpitude" came into my head and I paused the ep and looked it up, no it is not a real word but it is a word people think is real.

"My watch is ended", only really good bit.

Ollie died avenging his family. It's stupid in our world but it makes sense in his.

Tyrion is losing hotness with each passing minute, get Mr. Martin in to write his lines if no one elses!!

Yeah, this one wasn't so great. I understand the need for build-up scenes for bigger things to come, but compared to last week's episode which, IMO, was really quite good, this latest one makes the show appear rudderless. Feels like it's meandering again.

Yeah, much as I hated the little shit when he stabbed Jon, I was hoping Jon would have at least given him a reprieve. It's totally understandable for Oliie to be pissed at the guy who gave his parent's killers safe passage on Northern lands. If Jon can forgive the Wildlings, why could he not forgive Ollie and just exile him somewhere? Plus, he's just a kid, even in "we don't give a fuck about age restrictions" land. It's not Stannis burning his daughter bad, mind you, but still.

You never leave an enemy alive who could later stab you in the back. Ollie got what he deserved. So will Jon run into Sansa or will they miss each other in the night? I thought everyone walking out of the small council meeting was terrific. Poor Tommen caught between two master manipulators with no idea what to do. Here is a hint boy, kill them both.

You can't pardon a man who murdered the Lord Commander regardless of his reasons or age. Jon didn't want to kill him, but he had no choice.

Just like you never make deals with the Wildlings, never let a woman remain in Castle Black... I understand Jon's choice, but to say he had no choice isn't really true. The guy had just come back from the dead. He could have told the Knight's Watch pretty much anything at that point and they would have gone along with it. Nor was he ever the most traditional leader to begin with, which was sort of the point. Why start being traditional now?

It's not a big deal or anything, I was just expecting him to grant them a last minute reprieve.

We don't know what effect Melissandre's magic had on Jon. I had thought for some time that Jon's resurrection might take on some aspects of the books' Lady Stoneheart B-story, where she became an exceptionally ruthless destroyer of all things Frey, post Red Wedding - an almost zombie-esque killing machine with a singular motivation of revenge. A pre-death Jon may have given Ollie reprieve; a post-death Jon may be considerably more cold-hearted and cruel. I was personally surprised that he actually hesitated before swinging Longclaw to cut the rope release. That probably would have made him appear even less human than the writers intended.

In-universe, it could be explained that Jon wasn't dead long enough to loose most of his humanity like Kat did, but I can't imagine that there wouldn't be some negative side effects of such magical intervention with the natural process of death. Even Beric Dondarrion himself began to regret the constant resurrections from Thoros and the toll it took on his mind and body, when he said "Fire consumes. It consumes, and when it is done there is nothing left. Nothing".
