Dr. Strange - Benedict Cumberbatch Cast!

Well, seeing how the X-Men movies were all "Don't give a damn" with accents by having Xavier and Magneto speak with British Accents when neither are (Xavier is American and Magneto is Polish) I'm glad MCU stayed true here.
Magneto even changes accent during X-Men: First Class when at the end on the beach scene Michael Fassbender is suddenly using his natural Irish accent. Maybe it was being used to show the character had transitioned to the evil side...

I think it was the Empire review that made me aware of it. They felt the film was a bit rough in places and mentioned this as an example. They wondered if they ran out of money or time at this point for Michael Fassbender to finish the dub.

I noticed the accent, but hadn't noticed it was Irish at the time. I thought it was supposed to be more central European (and making it the moment he became Magneto instead of Erik Lehnsherr). That being said, listening to that clip, it's clearly an Irish accent. Oh well.

The movie's screenwriter, C. Robert Cargill has commented on the casting of Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One.
He called the original Asian version of The Ancient One a racist stereotype, and said they didn't make the character Tibetan, because they didn't want to piss off China by recognizing Tibet as a seperate country.
I can see the stereotype accusation, but I honestly never would have guessed that the whole China/Tibet thing would have had that kind of impact. With China being such a huge market, I guess I can see not wanting to piss them off and get the movie banned. I honestly have no problem with what they've done with the character, Swinton is a great actress so I'm sure she'll did a good job.
EDIT: Marvel has also now released an official statement.

I'm starting to wonder if Marvel was in a no win situation here. They changed the character to avoid what they apparently thought was a stereotype and now they're being accused of whitewashing. I guess they could have tried to find a way to keep him Asian and avoid the stereotype and not pissed off China, but I can see why they changed this.

Awesome news. Giacchino is one of my favorite movie/TV composers. While he has worked on Disney movies in the past, this is actually his first Marvel Studios production. I'm actually kind of surprised, you'd think with all of the SFF scores he's done, Marvel would have already gotten him by now.

Why not make the character Chinese? Obviously the character's ethnic origin isn't based on their current geographic location if a Celt can be the current Ancient One.

Pretty much yeah. This does strike me as trying to cover their asses after Derrickson said something they didn't want him too.
