Spoilers Supergirl - Season 1

But they're free to use their forum to make an artistic statement about how they think superheroes should be portrayed, regardless of relative viewership. That a film like BvS enjoys a larger audience is irrelevant.

Pretty fun episode so far.

Too bad Barry didn't explain parallel Earths as being like different TV networks....

So Kara fools people with a pair of glasses and pulling her hair back, but everyone recognizes Siobhan from across the room in her Halloween makeup....

Something about Barry feels off.. The way he talks doesn't feel right. I dunno what it is.

Jeeze the ending of that fight was so corny

Normally I'd be all rah rah for firefighters, but they totally upstaged the Flash.

Yay, the (I didn't think) Kryptonians (could be so boring) are back....

That was a pretty horrible resolution but they really couldn't have either hero upstage the other so... Firefighters yea!!

"World's Finest"--

Kara/SG: Her less than impressed reaction to the Flash's name dropping (Arrow, et al.) was natural, and worked for the first meeting.

Flash: He was just sort of...there. His best moment was telling SG to pursue James.

James: "That's cool, I guess" Interesting reply about another superhero, and it was actually amusing to see Winn spot James' jealousy, and constantly tries to rub it in throughout the episode. So, for now--pre-Non interference--the romance takes its first big step. Good.

Winn: Resident punk; his affections are so underplayed, even if it were possible to reach Smythe, he does not provide enough emotional support.

Cat: "gazing longingly from a distance." (and other stuff) Her advice to Kara seems like it will backfire.
Her "cast"/CW show comment was spot on--funny as hell.

Lucy: Finally straightens out James about their relationship being wrong from the start. Hopefully, that brings the "will they / wont they" to the end it deserves.

Banshee: Smythe buys into the "killing the one you hate most" too quickly.

The crowd suddenly coming to a superhero's aide...shades of Raimi's Spider-Man movies.

FX: The fire on Kara's sweater was sooo bad. Come on--that's an elementary CG effect, but this did not look like it was actually on her body (the point). SG hit by lightning was not handled well.

Overall: The series desperately needs to add large scale, truly threatening villains. Banshee & Livewire come off like an ineffectual high school clique sniping at another group of kids. I suppose that's what the Cadmus plot will add to the series, and its arrival cannot come too soon.

Non's mass mind control interrupting the biggest moment of the series. Keep stretching this out, Berlanti.

As a crossover, its by no means BVS in tone, implied scale / importance to the world the characters inhabit, etc. It was just lightweight.

Supergirl and Cavill Superman are unpopular at the same time. I forgot about that. But I have to give points to Supergirl for doing something to redeem its central character. Batman v Superman didn't touch on this very well.

Yeah, he seemed a little more cocky.

I liked it. Barry fit right in as the cool older brother in the Flash/Supergirl relationship. In fact, it looked as if this was the most fun either Grant Gustin or Mellissa Benoist have had since either of their shows began. It's too bad this was just a one-off. Those two have good chemistry together.

Or the writers could have come up with a solution that involved the two heroes working together equally...Team-Up 101.

Then what's their excuse for missing that?
That they're not the sharpest TV writers in the business...?

There was a time and place for the moment when the grateful public helps Supergirl out...it wasn't while the Special Guest Hero from Another Network was lying unconscious on a roof.

Bwahahaha a CW jab.

I wanted Barry to say "What's The CW?"

This was great fun, but it had a few plot holes. Bringing Siobhan into the DEO, apparently without keeping its location secret from her, seems like a bad idea, as it turned out. And Kara just changing into Supergirl right in front of the Flash was awkward, even given that she was apparently dazed from Siobhan's attack. Also, I think there may have been some lines missing, because Kara went from "What do you mean, 'another Earth?'" to "Barry's from another universe!" without ever getting an explanation from Barry.

And while I love how happy Kara was about Barry getting them ice cream at superspeed, it raises so many questions. I could buy him getting to the ice cream store and back in a split-second, but how did he get the machines to dispense the ice cream that quickly? How did he get the cones back at superspeed without them melting from friction? How did he pay for the ice cream? Would Earth-1 money be legal tender on Supergirl's Earth? If not, does that mean he essentially stole the ice cream?

And I love scenes where the average citizens stand up to help the superhero. That was great to see.

I was also hoping for more of a Flash-Supergirl race, one that was done for its own sake and that had an actual outcome. Although I love it that Barry's solution to get back home was essentially a Fastball Special.

Like Kara's so-called secret identity, who has not been to the DEO. It's like the local bus station, or Cheers..

It was forced--a quickie resolution, and too much a sticky-fingered inspiration from the Raimi Spider-Man movies.

Oh, and it's cool that both Supergirl and The Flash have Blake Neely as their composer, since he was able to incorporate both their themes into the score quite nicely. There's even a nifty bit where they're going to the warehouse and both their themes are playing in counterpoint. I love that sort of thing.
