Rick & Daryl were basically playing Bo & Luke on a TWD episode of Dukes of Hazzard . Paul/Jesus encounters beginning at the gas station to the field & lake felt very weak in the writing.


Because Rick & Daryl sat in the truck cab long enough painfully/obviously giving Paul/Jesus enough time to join them due to weak writing before they finally drove off.

This episode would have been believable if on the road trip had been Eugene with another Alexandrian instead of Rick & Daryl IMHO.

Norman and Andrew saw themselves as "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" others on set saw them as more "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.", though I do think the Dukes of Hazard likening makes more sense.

Maybe worth noting Rick and Daryl are ZA Pros and know what they're doing and this was a rare outing for them since they happened upon someone just as capable as they are. I do't think that sitting in the truck was as thumbs-downingly skepitcal writing as you do. They were confident in their restraints. Nor do I think the writing was all of that "weak." Some people, at times, seem a bit harsh on the show and needlessly critical. This was supposed to be a "lighter" outing after the heavier stuff we've dealt with for so long. Rick and Daryl had a bad day. It was a nice respite from the heavy stuff and I found it funny for them to break formula a bit a do some level of humor.

They were acting practically like a married couple at the beginning of the episode and the end before they held hands.

Yeah they were very "couple-ly" at the beginning. They almost felt like an actually family getting ready for their day. Rick is getting "ready for work", Carl is dicking around making everyone's morning a little more annoying doing his "Claimer Joe" tennis ball bit, Judith is on the floor being an adorable baby, and Michonne is padding around the place in her bathrobe. Sort of a sweet moment and, when they gave in to their feelings at the end that was just a great moment. Say what you will about how this relationship may have come from nowhere (the clues have been there all along) but that entire moment centered around the couch when Michonne comes in with the baby monitor the two of them already felt like a happily married couple.

Yep, nothing better than a warm pop that's been sitting in a vending machine for 2 years.

I was talking with someone today and we were wondering how they were going to handle Carl's lost eye. I was wondering if at some point they'll just say "fuck it" and say they found him a glass-eye so Chandler doesn't have to go around for the rest of the series with either a bandage or eyepatch. They'd still have to do some make-up around the eye socket to represent scarring from the wound and maybe a contact to represent a glass-eye that doesn't match his real-eye. Otherwise it's going to be a bit odd seeing Carl with a covered eye for the rest of the series.

The eyepatch will serve as a constant reminder of how harsh that world is--usually at the hands of the living.

It'd have been interesting to see where everyone else is at this point as well. It's tough to always have the episode focus on every character but if two months (as indicated on TTD) have passed since the last episode seems like there's a lot of dangling plot-threads out there. Mostly in where Carol/Morgan now stand.

With the "Jesus" plot taking center stage next week, who knows if that big situation will shine a light on how Carol and Morgan have been relating after the passing of two months.

Well, when they first arrived the group was only given two houses for the dozen or so of them so there was already a lot of home sharing and it probably made some fair bit of sense that Michonne and Rick (also likely Daryl and Carol) the strongest members of the group would be in one home. Or Rick/Michonne in one to protect one house Daryl/Carol in the other to protect it.

Yeah, I struggle to think if we've, really, ever had an episode this lite and "fun." There's certainly been dull or slower episodes dealing with characters and stuff (The Grove, comes to mind) as opposes to horrors, intensity and walkers. But I don't think we've ever had a true, mild, near-comedic episode. Hopefully, even with Negan coming, now that the characters are in a place of actual security and with a level of normalcy we'll get more of this. This episode was quite a bit of relief and fun.

A fine episode. It is about time Rick and Michonne hooked up. They've been pretty close for some time. Back when Rick started falling for Jessie I thought this should have happened instead.

I did see the loss of the truck coming, as soon as they stopped at the gas station. I did forget about the requested pop but a trailer of food is a better gift. Once they stepped out I thought "anything bad happens, it's on you."

I kinda see why Enid wanted to kill the zombie mayor. Chances are her parents are zombies too (eaten up but brains intact). She's probably going to be sore for awhile because Carl let the other guy kill her.

Excepting a couple decent character beats this episode held little of interest for me.

The sudden two month time jump was very jarring, it just screamed, we don't know how to get out of this mess we've written ourselves into so f-it, lets time jump, throw in some comedy and a long awaited hook-up and hopefully no one will know the difference.

And poor Chris on TD. He was really walking on eggshells not to say what he really thought about the episode, trying to stay positive, but his disappointment broke the surface a couple times.

That reminds me, were we really expected to believe this little band of the living worked through the night eventually subduing the entire hoard.

Not a question as we surely were expected to, but I don't. That's part of the mess the time jump cleans up.

Skipping the cliffhanger where the kid was saying "mom" annoyed me but skipping over the fence being fixed. I mean, not even a montage? These time jumps are a little irritating especially when there's nothing in the show to indicate them. If Talking Dead hadn't mentioned it, I would never have thought it was two months. Two weeks at most.

Not only is it not fixed yet, the hole became larger during the jump. 6, 7, or 8 more panels were shown to be missing. Granted, the tower falling may have started a chain reaction, pulling more down than we originally saw when the tower fell on it. Still seems to be one of the first things you'd fix.

Oh yeah, that's right, Walker hoard are all dead now so not as high a priority, I suppose.

They were working on expanding the fences, so they probably took some down in order to conserve and re-use materials and due to a lack of materials. I think the time-jump was fine we didn't need to see an episode or two of them cleaning up the mess, rebuilding, planning the rebuild/expansion, Carl's recovery, etc. And the entire first half of the season spanned a day or two. So a time jump was coming. IIRC, there's a similar time-jump in the comics after the horde/mega-herd is taken down.

And, no, the Alexandrians did not take out the entire horde themselves, most of the walkers were likely pulled into the lake of fire. Can't say I saw any "disappointment" in Chris's mannerisms during TTD. Granted his enthusiasm tempered a bit when the discussion whent from "Richonne" and the Daryl/Rick antics and talking about the other stories in the episode which were a little less exciting.

I liked that episode a lot better than the first episode of second half of the season. It was a nice change of pace for what can be such a depressing show to have a more light and fun feel. Well as much as you can for a show set in the Zombie Apocalypse. Michonne and Rick make sense. They both rarely show much personality other than pensive or quiet rage that I can see them working.

And I loved the "pop" conversation. My wife is from Iowa, and I have no idea of this "pop" she speaks of!

So why did his friends call him Jesus? Was it because of the way he looked or because of his manner of living? He didn't kill the dynamic duo when he could have, but also people are sometimes given nicknames that reflect their opposite trait. I guess all will be revealed soon.
