First: the movie's been out for two months. The spoiler statute of limitations only goes so long.
Second: a mod was the first person to respond to the thread. If it was an infraction, it would have been noted.
The "statute of limitations" is a year. We're pretty forgiving of violations of it, but spoilers for a movie out less than two months and not on DVD/Blu-ray yet has always been off-limits, especially in the thread title.
By the way, nice job blaming
Coloratura for being spoiled by seeing the title on the front page sidebar and then blaming me for not moderating/infracting your post even though it's not my forum and I can't actually do anything here. The only person you didn't blame for posting the spoilers is yourself. It makes your lecture to
Coloratura about personal responsibility rather humorous.
I think people are not reading the OP's post beyond the title, which is not suggesting Han is alive, but that he sacrificed himself for the good of his son. And I think it's very likely that Han knew he'd probably die there but he attempted to help turn his son anyway. And I would definitely like to see Kylo turn back to good during the course of the new trilogy.
And if we do wanna debate whether or not he could potentially survive, I'd point out that Luke survives his entire hand being cut off and falling down a similar chasm.
I read his post, I just don't think such a silly premise warranted a long response. I agree that Han thought convincing Kylo was a longshot and that he was probably going to die in the attempt. That was evident by his hesitation to go onto the bridge and the grim look he gave as he convinced himself to go forward, risking his life to in a desperate attempt to save his son. But I don't for a minute believe that he took the lightsaber and killed himself with it to spare his son from having to do it. For one, it wouldn't alleviate Kylo's guilt since his situation still provoked Han's death. Secondly, Han's goal was to take Kylo away from the influence of the dark side; killing himself prevents that. Third, Han might not have known that Chewie was right there, but he had to have known that Chewie would go apeshit on Kylo to avenge his friend once he found out.
As far as the possibility of Han's survival, that's even more far-fetched than the killing himself idea. Luke was a Jedi and could direct/soften his fall, Han could not. Cloud City's air shafts were sucking falling debris into them safely for later disposal, Han just fell down into the planet's/weapon's energy core. Luke did not have a fatal wound, Han did. Cloud City didn't explode minutes later, Starkiller Base did.
